Clifton-Clyde Girls Track Take Second at Bennington Invitational

The track and field season got rolling for the Clifton-Clyde Eagles on Friday as they were part of the nine school field competing at the Bennington Invitational.

The lady Eagles flew home with a second place team finish after tallying 92 points to take second, finishing just 26 points behind Minneapolis who won the girls title at the Bennington Invitational. Clifton-Clyde boys finished eighth of nine teams, while the host Bennington won the boys competition.

A trio of first place finishes led the lady Eagles at the Bennington Invitational as three different gals brought home gold medals. Elizabeth Nobert raced her way to gold in the 300 meter hurdles posting a time of 51.60, while Lacey Biggerstaff vaulted to the win in the pole vault with a vault of 7'0 and Kourtni Hubert tossed her way to first place in the javelin behind a toss of 129'10, which was 23'07 better than second place. Both Nobert and Hubert added some other solid finishes to their day also as Nobert took third in the 100 meter hurdles and Hubert earned the silver in the shot put and fourth place in the 100 meter dash.

Baylie Bowser and Emily Coffman each brought home a silver medal for the Eagles taking second in the discus and high jump, respectively, while the lady Eagles 4x100 meter relay team also nabbed a second place showing. Both Gracie Rudolph and Rebecca LeBlanc earned bronze medals in the shot put and pole vault, respectively, while Bethany Morgan earned a fourth place in the shot put to highlight the meet for Clifton-Clyde.

For the boys it was a third place and a pair of fourth place finishes in field events that highlighted the action at Bennington, as Eli Ohlde took third in the shot put and fourth in the discus, while Austin Francis placed fourth in the javelin.

Clifton-Clyde takes to the track again on Tuesday to continue the season as they will compete at the Washington County Invitational.
