Atchison Girls & Perry Lecompton Boys Win PLHS Track Invite

Perry Lecompton Kaws played host to four teams for track and field action on Tuesday in smaller scale track meet with two other area teams competing alongside Perry Lecompton.

The Atchison lady Red took home first place with 180 total points, finishing ahead of Wellsville who took second and Jeff West took third. Perry Lecompton and Immaculata girls finished fourth and fifth as team, as the Top four teams all surpassed 100 total points in the girl’s competition. For the boys it was 166 total points for Perry Lecompton to lead them to the win on their home track, while Atchison and Wellsville took second and third, respectively. Jeff West and Immaculata placed fourth and fifth to finish out the boys team standings and just like the girls standings four of the five teams finished with over 100 points.

The Atchison lady Red were led by nine first place performances on their way to the meet title and all nine gold medals were earned on the track. Imogene Bratton led the charge sprinting to wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 13.53 and 28.22. The lady Red went on to win the 400, 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs, also, as Jailhlyn Bratton won the 400 meter dash (1:03.10), Lyndi Hanson won the 800 meter run (2:42.44), Teagan Hanson won the 1600 meter run (6:05.90) and Hailey Macierowski finished first in the 3200 meter run (13:42.03). The winning didn't stop there as the lady Red swept the relays winning the 4x100 (53.53), 4x400 (4:19.94) and 4x800 (10:50).

Four first place finishes were earned by the Atchison boys as Seth Heckle won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 18.24 and 44.87. While, Matthew Sowers won the 1600 meter run (4:59.78) and Justin Whitmer took first in the 800 meter run (2:06.61).

Host of the meet, Perry Lecompton was led by eight first place finishes by the boys team to claim first place as a team. Cody Williams led the Kaws winning both the 100 and 200 meter dashes after posting times of 11.27 and 23.19. Cole Kellum also won on the track, notching a time of 51.27 to win the 400 meter dash, while the Kaws 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams for the boys won gold with times of 3:38.25 and 9:22.27. In the field events, Austin Kurtz, Nate Bays and Max Kuenzi each picked up first place performances winning the javelin (169'01), triple jump (39'07.25) and pole vault (10'06), respectively.

For the lady Kaws, Abbi Folks highlighted the day with a pair of first place finishes winning the long jump and triple jump behind leaps of 15'01.75 and 32'01.50. Harleigh Robertson and Taylor Ball also registered first place finishes for Perry Lecompton winning the girls javelin (103'07) and shot put (34'04).

The Jeff West Tigers brought home four gold medals on the day all in field events as Makayla Greene, Makenzie Tucker, Michael Majors and Triston Giltner all won events. Greene had a toss of 110'07 to win the girls discus, while Tucker won the girls pole vault behind a vault of 9'06. Majors registered a throw of 47'01 to win the boys shot put, while Giltner leapt his way to the win the high jump with a leap of 6'00.
