Five Area Schools Compete at Jeff West Track Invite

Five area teams took to the track and the field and competed against each other at the Jeff West Invitational on Tuesday as the Tigers hosted Valley Falls, Jefferson County North, ACCHS and Oskaloosa.

The girl’s competition was so closely contested that JCN and the host, Jeff West tied for first place as each girls team finished with 168 points; the ACCHS Tigers claimed third place with 134 total points. Valley Falls and Oskaloosa took home fourth and fifth place, respectively in the gir’ls team standings. The Jeff West boys also brought home first place as a team tallying 179 points, while JCN took second with 168 points and Oskaloosa rounded out the Top three with 126 points. Valley Falls and ACCHS boys took fourth and fifth in the boys standings.

Fifteen first place performances were earned by the host Jeff West Tigers with five individuals claiming multiple gold medals. Makenzie Tucker led the way was she won three events on the day posting times of 1:03.78 and 2:31.39 to win the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run, while vaulting to the pole vault win with a vault of 9'07. Mariah Murdie and Jordan Hawman both were multi-event winners in the girl’s action as Murdie won the 100 meter hurdles (16.59) and the triple jump (34'05) and Hawman won the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 13.59 and 28.29. On the boy’s side of competition, Michael Majors and Trey Markham each won two events for the Tigers. Majors tossed his way to wins in the shot put (48'05.50) and discus (148'08), while Markham sprinted to the win in the 100 meter dash (12.65) and 300 meter hurdles (44.96).

Two more golds were captured in girl’s action by the Tigers as the 4x400 meter relay posted a time of 4:22.93 to claim first and Alyssa Garza posted a toss of 35'01.50 to win the shot put. For the boys Hunter Carter, Ryan Wisner and Tristan Giltner each brought home a first place finish, coming in the 3200 meter run (11:50.40), 400 meter dash (55.37) and high jump (5'10), respectively.

Five first place finishes in both the girls and boys competitions spear headed the day for the JCN Chargers. The lady Chargers won two of three relay events with times of 54.17 and 10:46.94 to win the 4x100 and 4x800 meter relays, while Carissa McAfee won the 3200 meter run (13:01.58) on the track. Ravyn Jobbins registered a toss of 112'08 to take first in the javelin and Jentri Fowler won the pentathlon. The boys claimed wins in the 800 meter run, long jump, pentathlon, pole vault and 4x100 meter throwers relay. Brayden Summers behind a time of 2:12.95 won the 800 meter run, while Cole Bryant notched a leap of 17'11 to win the long jump and Dakota Hutchinson won the pentathlon. Ridge Robertson won the pole vault (9'07) and with a time of 56.10 the Chargers won the 4x100 meter throwers relay.

Seven of the eight first place finishes for the Oskaloosa Bears at the Jeff West Invitational were earned in the boy’s competition with Dillon Grother leading the charge winning the 110 meter hurdles (17.51) and the triple jump (40'06). The Bears also won the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays after registering times of 45.61 and 3:42.54, while Jordan Butler paced his way to the 1600 meter run (5:17.61) and Tommy Molder sprinted to the 200 meter dash (24.08) win. Ben Harvey also picked up gold with a toss of 142'09 to win the javelin. Jaden Courter grabbed the only first place in the girl’s competition for Oskaloosa by winning the discus with a toss of 99'10.

ACCHS Tigers were led by three golds in the girl’s action as Madison Bissell won the 1600 meter run (5:57.40), Katie Sullivan took first in the 300 meter hurdles (54.84) and Courtney Coder won the long jump (15'10).

For Valley Falls a pair of first place finishes were earned as the Dragons boys 4x800 meter relay team posted a time of 9:12.33 to win and Tamara Drinkard won the high jump with a leap of 5'00.
