Auburn Girls & Boys Sweep Track Titles at Falls City Invite

On Tuesday the Falls City Tigers played host to five other schools for some track and field action with four the five also hailing from Nebraska and the other from Northeast Kansas.

At the end of the competition it was the Auburn Bulldogs roaring the loudest as both the boys and girls claimed the team titles on the day. The Auburn boy edged out host Falls City for first place with 153, winning by only five points giving the Tigers second, while Johnson County Central took third place. Southern, Horton and Nebraska City girls finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. In the girls action the margin of victory for Auburn was a lot bigger as the lady Bulldogs won by 24 points with 170 total points to take first, as Johnson County Central took second and Falls City finished third. Southern, Nebraska City and Horton finished fourth, fifth and sixth.

The Auburn Bulldogs on their way to first in the boys and girls action had 13 event wins on the day at the Falls City Invite. For the lady Bulldogs Taylor Peterson led the way winning the pole vault (9'08), high jump (5'02) and 800 meter run (2:39.40), while Maggy Rieschick picked up golds in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 16.84 and 46.52. Hayleigh Waddell also notched a first place finish winning the triple jump (31'10), while the lady Bulldogs won the 1600 meter relay, also with a time of 4:24.53. In the boys action both Dallas Yates and Jonathan Hannaford each won two events for Auburn. Yates took home first in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes behind times of 11.33 and 23.39, while Hannaford won swept the hurdles with times of 18.02 and 43.95 to the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Quintin Boden won the discus with a toss of 129'01 and the boys 1600 meter relay (3:54.48) also grabbed gold for Auburn.

Despite not winning the team titles, Johnson County Central brought home 17 first place performances. Leading the charge was Maddie Moran and Sam Saldivar won were multi-event winners on the day. Moran picked up wins in the girls 100 and 200 meter dashes posting times of 12.50 and 26.34, while Saldivar won the boys 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 4:56.60 and 10:58.85. On the track in the girl’s competition Johnson County Central added golds in the 400 meter relay (52.40) and 3200 meter relay (10:59.87), while Aleisha McDonald won the 3200 meter run (12:55.46) and Keele McClintock took first in the 400 meter dash (1:08.84). In the field events both Hanna Carnagey and Erin Hunzeker won an event in the girls competition winning the discus (89'00) and long jump (15'04.25).

On the boys side three other guys for Johnson County Central picked up gold medals as Mitch Faris won the 400 meter dash (57.51), Justin Kuhns took first in the pole vault (11'06) and Ryan Teten placed first in the shot put (49'04).

The host Falls City had most of their best performances in the boy’s action as the Tigers had five of their six first place performances come by the boys. Lee Heuttner led the Tigers by winning both the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 21'04 and 43'04, while Zach Jordening won the high jump (6'00). The Tiger boys also registered first place finishes in the 3200 and 400 meter relays with times of 9:31.70 and 45.51. Lainey Larsen won the lone first for the lady Tigers, winning the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:10.04.

Horton Chargers had won top first place performance on the day as Daspin Bruning tossed her way to the win the shot put with a toss of 34'11.
