A pair of Twin Valley League teams competed at the annual Beloit Relays on Friday as part of the lower division competition and both came away with some top notch performances, as Washington County and Clifton-Clyde both were in action.

The Washington County Tigers enjoyed great days as the girls took second place as a team only two and a half points off of a first place finish and the boys took third finishing only five points out of first place. Leading the charge for the Tigers were the throwers on the day as four event titles were won between three different throwers in the girls and boys competition. Erin Alexander and Brooke Tuma each registered winning tosses in the girl’s shot put (39'08) and discus (111'01), respectively, while Brett Herrs won both the boys shot put (55'04.50) and discus (159'09). Tuma added a bronze medal in the javelin to her day, also.

Ten more Top three finishes were picked up by Tiger athletes also at the Beloit Relays. For the girls Heidi Stegman and Courtney Moore each took the silver in the pole vault and 100 meter hurdles, while the lady Tigers team also notched second in the 4x100 meter relay. Dylan Hodgson in the boy’s action grabbed second place finishes in both the 800 and 3200 meter runs, while Martin Walter placed second in the high jump. Third place finishes were earned by Cole Thompson in the 200 meter dash, Jerrod Hoover in the high jump and the Tigers boys 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams.

Clifton-Clyde Eagles were led by their girls’ team on the day as they placed eighth as a team lead by a pair of first place performances as Elizabeth Nobert and Kourtni Hubert won the 300 meter hurdles (48.47) and javelin (131'04), respectively. The only other Top three finish picked up by the Eagles on the day was the girl’s 4x100 meter relay team, who finished third.

The track season continues for Washington County and Clifton-Clyde next week on Tuesday for the Tigers at the Nemaha Central Invitational and Friday at the Lincoln Invitational for the Eagles.
