Atchison & Royal Valley Track Take Part in Desoto Invite

A pair of 4A schools from the area in Atchison and Royal Valley competed against top flight competition in track action last Friday as part of the Desoto Invitational and came away with several top notch performances.

The Royal Valley Panthers were led by three first place finishes on the day as Eugene Masquat led the charge with a swept of the boys hurdles competition after posting times of 16.36 and 42.44 to win the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Patrick Broxterman added the other gold for Royal Valley as he leapt to the victory in the high jump with a mark of 6'06, while his teammate Lucas Broxterman took third in the same event. Four other Top five finishes were registered by Panthers as Jarrett Roy placed fourth in the boys javelin, Katie Hanson fifth in the girls javelin and Macy Putnam finished fourth in both the girls 100 and 300 meter hurdles.

Atchison Redmen were led by a first place showing of their own as Sarah Jaloma notched a time of 5:24.98 to win the girls 1600 meter run and also took second in the 3200 meter run. The lady Red added a third place finish by Emily Jaloma in the 300 meter hurdles, a pair of fourth place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays and fifth place finishes by Jaihlyn Bratton, Anna Shipley and Kate McCoole who took fifth in the high jump, pole vault and triple jump, respectively. On the boys side of competition Atchison was led by a bronze medal in the 400 meter dash by Jerel Rawls, while the 4x400 meter relay team took fourth and Seth Heckle placed fifth in the 110 meter hurdles.

Royal Valley continues their track season on Tuesday at the Nemaha Central Invite in Seneca, while Atchison hits the track again on Thursday at the Royal Valley Invite.
