Vermillion Wins Valley Heights Boys Golf Invitational

Several Twin Valley League teams teed it up at the Valley Heights boys golf Invitational last Friday and it was Vermillion continuing to perform well this season claiming the competition title.

Vermillion (Centralia/Frankfort) notched the top team score posting a 363, finishing seven-strokes better than Onaga who took second with a team score of 370. Washington, Valley Heights and Republic County rounded out the team performances finishing third, fourth and fifth with scores of 395, 406 and 408.

Three Top 10 individual performances led Centralia on the day as Ryan Vernon won another competition claiming first place with round of 81, finishing at least two-strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Danny Mueting and Jason Gore joined Vernon in the Top 10 placing fifth and tenth, respectively with rounds of 89 and 96. Chase Boyce finished off Vermillion's team score with a 97, while Marshall Ruetti and Sean Rempe carded rounds of 102 and 109.

A pair of Top five performances led the Onaga Buffalos on the day as Lucas Helget earned second place with after carding a round of 83 and Tyler Fleming placed fourth with a round of 86. A 97 and 104 by Trenton Ross and Jace Fischer finished out the Buffalos team score, while Ben Kufahl and James Johnson posted rounds of 108 and 109.

Third place team Washington County had their best round come from Evan Oullette, who carded a 90 to place seventh. Hunter Johnson, Sideny Applegarth and Matt Small rounded out the Tigers four-man team score with scores of 90, 98 and 111, respectively, while Scott Romeiser shot a 112.

For the host Valley Heights the Mustangs had two Top 10 individual performances as Payton Manley and Katlynn Treff posted rounds of 90 and 95, respectively to place sixth and ninth. Quentin Blaske and Bryan Yungeberg scored rounds of 113 and 108 on the day for the Mustangs to field a four-man team.

Hanover, Linn and Marysville also had competitors in action on the day. For the Wildcats Aaron Hendrickson, Brandon Gerleve, William Moore and Stuart Graff all were in action posting rounds of 109, 134, 134 and 144, respectively. For Linn Andrew Meyer led the way with a round of 85 to place third, while Kalen Richardson and Jenna Ohlde scored rounds of 115 and 146. Marysville had both Roman Carrillo and Damian Gordon compete scoring rounds of 145 and 168.
