Nemaha Central Girls & Washington County Boys Win Nemaha Central Track Invite

2015 Nemaha Central Track Invitational Results - boys results & girls results (5-5-15) 

The weather played nice on Tuesday and several Northeast Kansas teams were able to compete in high school sports action including track and field. Nemaha Central played host to several area teams and a few others and plenty of top notch performances were earned.

It was the host lady Thunder of Nemaha Central that paced the girl’s action as they claimed the top spot after posting 133.50 total points, finishing 45 points better than second place which went to Sabetha, while Marysville was only two-points behind the Bluejays in third place. Axtell and Rock Creek finished out the girls Top five team performances, placing fourth and fifth, while Washington County took sixth, Jackson Heights seventh, Royal Valley eighth, Flint Hills Christian ninth and Riverside tenth.

In the boys competition it was the Washington County Tigers scoring 120 points to win the meet finishing 18 points ahead of second place, Sabetha, while Nemaha Central finished third. Riverside and Marysville finished out the boys Top five team showings with fourth and fifth place, while Royal Valley, Jackson Heights, Axtell, Rock Creek and Flint Hills Christian placed sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth, respectively.

The host Nemaha Central Thunder registered nine top first place performances with six coming in the boys competition. Jacob Koelzer continued his strong performance in the boy’s 100 meter dash posting a time of 10.81 to claim the gold, while leaping to the win in the long jump, also with a leap of 20'10.75. Colin Lierz and Zach Bradley each registered top performances on the track in the 1600 meter run (4:49.18) and 300 meter hurdles (41.11), while Caleb Bradley and Abe Elder earned first place finishes coming in field events, winning the pole vault (12'06) and triple jump (40'08.75). On the girls side a first place finish by Kaley Dalinghaus in the discus (119'11) and by Racael Baumgartner in the 300 meter hurdles (49.51) helped the lady Thunder to a first place team performance. The lady Thunder's 4x100 meter relay team also took the gold, after posting a time of 52.49.

Six first place performances paced the Sabetha Bluejays on the day with three in the boys and girls competition each. For the lady Bluejays Meagan Garrett posted a mark of 5'06 to win the high jump, breaking her own school record and recording the second best mark in the State this year, while Heidi Heiniger won the javelin again with a toss of 128'08 and Nicole Brey sprinted to the win in the 100 meter dash (12.81). Two of the three first place finishes in the boy’s action were earned in the field events as Treavor Schmelzle won the javelin (166'05) and Jacob Leuthold took first in the shot put (48'00). Keegan Cox paced his way to the win in the 3200 meter run behind a time of 11:00.86.

Marysville was led by Joe Smith who picked up a pair of gold medals by winning the boys 400 meter dash and 800 meter run with times of 51.58 and 2:01.83. While in the girls action Megan Hill won the 400 meter dash (1:05.24), Chloe Cudney took first in the 100 meter hurdles (15.96) and the girls also won the 4x800 meter relay (10:46.62).

Washington County Tiger boys had Cole Thompson win the 200 meter dash (23.52), while the boys relay teams won the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays with times of 45.55 and 8:44.71 on their way to a first place team finish. In the girls action, Erin Alexander tossed her way to the win in the shot put behind a toss of 41'09.

Kaitlynn Little led the Jackson Heights Cobras at the Nemaha Central Invitational as she won both the girls 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 5:44.34 and 13:12.52, while on the boys side the Cobras posted a time of 3:37.74 to win the 4x400 meter relay.

Riverside Cyclone, Andrae McGaughy won the boys 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.08 and Royal Valley had one event winner on the day as Patrick Broxterman won the boys high jump with leap of 6'02.
