Jackson Heights, Wetmore, Onaga & Doniphan West Compete at Onaga Track Invite

Four area teams including Jackson Heights, Wetmore, Doniphan West and Onaga competed against each other along with St. Mary's in track and field action last Friday as the Buffalos of Onaga played host to the action.

All four area teams had top performers on the day with three of the four having seven event winners on the day.

The hosts Onaga Buffalos were led by a pair of multi-event winners as Belinda Ames and Michael Bliss each brought home a pair of gold medals. Ames raced to times of 17.27 and 52.66 to claim the gold in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, while Bliss tossed his way to wins in the discus (116'04) and javelin (151'05). On the girl’s side of competition the lady Buffalos also won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 11:09.20, while Cheyenne Brunkow took first in the shot put with a toss of 90'06.50, breaking the school record in the process. Garrett Ames added a first place finish for the Onaga boys as he won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.18.

Kenzie Blevins yet again led the Doniphan West Mustangs as she won four events at the Onaga Invitational, sprinting to wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 13.32 and 28.41, while leaping to wins in the triple jump (34'02.50) and long jump (16'02). Alyssa Clark and Calli Caudle each picked up first place showings for the lady Mustangs, too as they won the javelin (104'05) and high jump (4'08), respectively. Kody Collins claimed the lone gold in the boy’s action for Doniphan West winning the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.30.

Jackson Heights was paced by seven first place finishes with six coming in boy’s competition. The Cobras struck with wins in the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays after posting times of 3:37.02 and 9:00.44, while Seth Holliday won the 800 meter run (2:09.64) and Peter Rupnicki sprinted to a win in the 100 meter dash (11.63). In the field events both Korby Strube and Wyatt Roles won events, claiming first in the long jump (18'09.50) and shot put (42'06), respectively. Hannah Davault was the only lady Cobra to earn first place on the day as she won the 3200 meter run with a time of 14:00.02.

For the Wetmore Cardinals it was Aaron Achten leading the way at the Onaga Invitational as he posted times of 5:01.38 and 10:54.97 to win the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. The lady Cardinals earned gold also as their 4x400 meter relay team posted a time of 4:42.30 to earn first place.
