Atchison Girls Win KCAL Track Title & Boys Take Second

Full 2015 KCAL Track Results - individual results & team results (5-14-15)

The Atchison Redmen put together strong performances on the track on Thursday at the KCAL hosted by KC Washington high school, as the lady Red won the League title and the boys took second place.

Behind 11 first place finishes in events and 191 total points the lady Red took home the KCAL title as they won by 44 points. For the boys they notched 135 total points earning them second place, just seven points off the League title which was won by Schlagle.

Leading the way for the lady Red was Sarah Jaloma won paced her way to wins in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs behind times of 5:47.15 and 12:39.95, while Lyndi Hanson won the 800 meter run (2:36.34) and both Jaihlyn Bratton and Emily Jaloma won events on the track, claiming the gold in the 400 meter dash (1:02.99) and 300 meter hurdles (50.69), respectively. Three more first place finishes were picked up on the track by the lady Red as they swept the relays winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 with times of 52.45, 4:27.34 and 10:41.40. In the field events Anna Shipley, Lindsey Anderson and Payton Nigus all earned first place finishes for Atchison winning the pole vault (8'00), discus (91'04) and javelin (103'11), respectively.

On top of their first place finishes many lady Red added another Top three performance as Hanson took second in both the pole vault and 1600 meter run, while Bratton placed third in the high jump and Anderson earned the silver in the shot put. Skyler Blakely picked up the silver in the 800 and the bronze in the 1600 meter run, while Hailey Macierowski and Teagan Hanson finished second and third in the 3200 meter run, respectively.

The Atchison boys were led by three first place finishes including winning two of the three relay events; taking the gold in the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays with times of 3:38.23 and 9:25.75 and took second in the 4x100. The other first place finish at the League meet for the Redmen came by Jerel Rawls as he won the 400 meter dash behind a time of 51.79.

Matthew Sowers picked up a pair of silver medals coming in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs in the boys action, while Tyler DeSilva raced to a second place finish in the 800 meter run and Jordan Henderson took second in the 400 meter dash. Also on the track Bendict Horvatic took third in the 800 meter run, while Lamarca Tolbert earned the bronze in the 100 meter dash and Seth Heckle nabbed two third place finishes in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles.

In the field events, Cameron Drury placed second in the shot put, while Frederick Simpson took third in the triple jump.

Atchison now turns their attention to the Regional meet coming up next Friday, May 22nd.
