Onaga Boys Take Third as Team & Washington County Qualifies a Golfer for State in 2A at Regionals

Onaga and Washington County both took to the course in Herington on Monday to try and qualify for the State competition and the Buffalos took third to qualify as a team and one golfer for the Tigers earned a spot at State, also.

The Buffalos of Onaga notched a team score of 403 to take third place and in the Class 2A Regionals the Top three teams qualify for State at each Regional. Leading the charge for Onaga was Lucas Helget who shot a 81 to finish sixth place individually, while Jace Fischer, Ben Kufahl, Trenton Ross and James Johnson also were in action for Onaga carding rounds of 97, 108, 117 and 129, respectively.

Washington County missed out on qualifying for State as a team by one spot in the standings finishing fourth just behind Onaga, but Hunter Johnson did earn a Top five individual score from non-qualifying teams to earn a spot at State. Johnson carded a round of 95 finishing tied for 13th on the day.

Onaga and Washington County golfers will tee it up one final time this season next Tuesday, May 26th at State in Emporia at the Emporia Municipal Golf course.
