Kansas High School Football District Standings and Playoff Scenarios
By Mike Smith

Its the last week of the regular season of high school football with most games Thursday night and some Friday in the state of Kansas. With only one game remaining for teams their is still plenty to play for like the district championship and playoff spots that are still up for grabs across the state and right here in the Kanzaland.

Some Kanzaland teams have been eliminated from playoff contention, some teams have locked up district titles and/or playoff spots but some still have work to do with one game remaining in the regular season.

In Class 4A, only one Kanzaland are team as guaranteed themselves a playoff spot as the undefeated and number team in the state Class 4A rankings, the Holton Wildcats have locked up their district championship even if they were to lose to Big Seven for Royal Valley. The Panthers are one of four Kanzaland area teams still alive for a possible playoff, as the Panthers need to beat Holton and have Hayden loss to Wamego to grab runner up spot in district nine of Class 4A.

Two other, Big Seven teams remain alive for the playoffs and their district title but only will make the playoffs and Perry Lecompton and Jeff West play each other in Class 4A district two for the right to go to the playoffs. The winner of the that game and the winner of the Tonganoxie at Basehor-Linwood advance to the playoffs and the head-to-head between the winners will determine the district champ.

Atchison Redmen are the other team still alive in Class 4A for the playoffs as they are in a win and your in game against KC Sumner to finish as district runner up in district one.

For Class 3A, there is still plenty up in the air, also going into the final game of the regular season. As, Silver Lake as locked up Class 3A district three, but ACCHS and Pleasant Ridge face off for the second playoff spot in that district in a must win game for each team.

Another team, needing a win is the Nemaha Valley Raiders who after keeping their playoff hopes alive last week with a 7-6 win over Rock Creek, need to be Marysville this week on the road but also get some help from Riley County. The Raiders need Riley County to beat Rock Creek on top of the Raiders needing to win themselves, as if it came down to a three way tie Nemaha Valley mathematically would be the odd man out in Class 3A district two. (Nemaha Valley at Marysville game will be on 92.1 KMZA & online)

There are two teams from the Kanzaland area that have locked up playoff spots in Class 3A, they both hail from district one and the Big Seven league. Both Hiawatha and Sabetha have locked playoff spots and will play each other for the right to be crowned district champion (game will be on 103.9 KNZA & online).

In Class 2-1A there will be three district champions from the area as two are already decided and the other will be on Friday night. From the Delaware Valley League, McLouth has cruised to the district two title while fellow DVL teams, Jefferson County North and Valley Falls will play each other for the other district two playoff spot.

The other area team that has locked up their district title hails from the Twin Valley League, as the Onaga Buffalos have won the district three crown with last weeks 42-0 thrashing of Wabaunsee.

District one in Class 2-1A champion is still to be decided but we do know that the winner will be from the DVL or TVL as the Centralia-Wetmore Panthers and the Jackson Heights Cobras have both secured playoff spots and will play for the district title on Friday (game will be on 103.9 KNZA & online). The defending Class 2-1A state champions, Centralia are looking to win other title and currently hold the longest winning streak in Kansas at 17 games.

That only leaves 8-man football and there is not much drama left for the Kanzaland area teams this week as in 8-man Division II district one, B&B and Hanover have locked up the playoff spots, one and two, respectively after B&B's double overtime win 52-46 over Hanover last Friday. The only area team that has something going down to the wire for a playoff spot in 8-Man this final game is Clifton-Clyde who doesn't even control their own destiny.

The Eagles play a non-district game in their final game of the season, but need Osborne to win over Rock Hills by 10 or more to force a tie for second with them and Rock Hills and possible Pike Valley if they beat Linn, forcing the second playoff spot to be decided by points. If that scenario plays out Clifton-Clyde would grab the runner up spot in the district and a playoff spot in 8-Man Division I.
