Eight Area Athletes & a Coach Earn KABC Baseball All-State Honors

The high school baseball season is in the books and a few area teams enjoyed some great seasons with runs to the State tournament and now a few area teams, athletes and a coach are being honored by the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches as they have given out All-State honors.

Headlining the All-State honors for the area is the Troy Trojans who enjoyed a 20-1 record this year making the State tournament for second straight year. Head coach, Roger Purdy earned the Class 2-1A Coach of the Year honors as the Trojans were unbeaten going into the State tournament this year. Troy senior, Nathan Gaarder was named the Class 2-1A Player of the Year, while earning first team All-State at pitcher and second team All-State at third base. Fellow senior, Tristan Speer picked up second team All-State honors at shortstop in Class 2-1A.

A pair of area athletes earned All-State baseball honors in Class 3A as Luis Rodriguez of Oskaloosa was named to the first team in the third base, while Chase Behler of Maur Hill-Mount Academy a team that made the 3A State tournament, earned second team honors in the outfield.

Four Big Seven baseball players picked up All-State honors in Class 4A-DII with Holton Wildcat, Justin Rieschick leading the way by earning first team honors in the outfield. Jeff West Tigers, Jared Ice and Grady Middendorf each picked up second team All-State honors at first and third base, respectively, while Bailey Patten of Perry Lecompton also earned second team honors, coming at utility.
