Five Northeast Kansas League teams were schedule to hit the diamond on Sunday afternoon but only two were able to get games in with earlier rainfall in the day causing the others to be postponed or cancelled.

Oskaloosa played host to Frankfort for a NEKL twin bill and earned a pair of wins on their home diamond claiming 7-3 and 10-2 wins, while the Seneca at Hiawatha double header was postponed and the matchup with Auburn (NE) for Doniphan County was cancelled and will not be made up.

Oskaloosa Legion Sweeps Frankfort in NEKL Action

Oskaloosa seperated themselves at the moment atop the NEKL standings with a sweep of Frankfort on Sunday as they picked up the 7-3 and 10-2 wins.

In game one it was a strong all round performance that earned Oskaloosa the win as Ethan Burghart went the full seven innings on the mound for the win, while Justin Sharp had a great game at the plate going 2-2 with two singles, a hit by pitch, and a walk, plus two stolen bases and Dalton VanHoutan went 2-4. Frankfort had a late opportunity in the game to get back into the contest with runs at first and second but a great diving catch with one down in top of seventh by Zach Whaley prevented Frankfort from scoring and helped Oskaloosa preserve the 7-3 win.

In game two the solid offense and pitching continued for Oskaloosa on their way to the 10-2 run-rule win. Tyler Moison went all five innings on the mound for the win. Offensively, Burghart went 2-3, while Sharp had another great game at plate going 1-2 with a solo shot to left. Mitchell Sullivan and Bryce Stottlemire each had a 1-2 performance and three stolen bases.

With the wins Oskaloosa is now 8-5 on the season and 8-2 in League play, while Frankfort fell to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in League action. Oskaloosa will be back in action on Tuesday night at Sabetha in a League double header starting at 6:00pm (6:00pm game will be on 103.9 KNZA), while Frankfort will host Sabetha on Wednesday in a twin bill.
