The holiday weekend featured multiple Northeast Kansas League legion baseball teams in action. 

Back on Friday Doniphan County earned a convincing road win over Auburn, NE winning 17-1 in six innings, while Seneca took down Atchison in a League double header claiming 10-0 and 8-0 wins.

On Sunday League action continued to roll along as Doniphan County and Seneca both earned road sweeps over Sabetha and Frankfort in League double headers. Doniphan County picking up a 12-1 four innings win and 16-2 victory, while Seneca won 12-2 in five innings and 12-1 in four frames at Frankfort.

Oskaloosa was also in action over the weekend and was involved in non-league play by participating in the Alma Tournament and they snapped a losing streak by going 3-0 in the tournament to win the tourney title. They opened the tournament with a 9-3 win over Silver Lake, then beat Burlington, CO 11-2 in the Semifinals and took down the host Alma in the Championship game winning 10-2.

Oskaloosa Snaps Losing Streak and Claims Alma Tournament Title

It proved to be a great holiday weekend for Oskaloosa as they snapped a long losing streak and team hitting slump to break lose for a 3-0 weekend and the Alma Tournament title.

The tourney opened up with a 9-3 win over Silver Lake a game in which Bryce Stottlemire pitched a strong seven innings with six strikeouts and two pickoffs earning the win. Oskaloosa followed that up with an 11-2 win in five innings against Burlington, CO. Dalton VanHoutan started game two giving up two runs early and getting into a jam in the second with the bases loaded by Kane Florence came in relief and got out of the jam and pitched the final three frames to help Oskaloosa to the win.

In the championship Oskaloosa squared off with the tournament host Alma and earned a 10-2 five inning win behind the pitching of Justin Sharp who went all five to earn the win, recording five strikeouts.

The offense woke up in the tournament for Oskaloosa as Mitchell Sullivan led the way with a 5-9 performance with three walks over the three games, while Dalton VanHoutan was 4-10, Jared Miller 4-8 with a walk and hit by pitch and Stottlemire finished 4-7 at the plate with a double and five walks.

With the three wins Oskaloosa is back over .500 on the season improving to 13-11 on the year.

Doniphan County Routes Auburn in 17-1 Thrashing

Doniphan County continued their solid play this season as they traveled to Auburn, NE and picked up the easy 17-1 road win.

Both teams got on the board in the first inning as Doniphan County lead 2-1 after the first frame and would do the rest of the scoring for the game, including an eight run third inning to earn the 17-1 victory in six innings.

Nathan Gaarder pitched the complete game to earn the win picking up seven strikeouts, while giving up just one-hit and offensively notched three RBI with two hits. Reid Greaser and Chris Winkel each had a three RBI night with a pair of hits each, while Phoenix Keller had four RBI's and two hits, also.

The win on Friday pushed Doniphan County to 16-3 on the season.

Seneca Sweeps Atchison in League Action on Friday

Behind solid pitching and plenty of offense Seneca breezed past Atchison in a League double header for 10-0 and 8-0 victories.

The action started off with Seneca out-hitting Atchison 10-2 in game one cruising to the 10-0 five inning win, as Dustin Rottinghaus pitched all four innings for Seneca for the win giving up zero runs on two hits, one walk and eight strikeouts. Devin Henry led the offensive with a 3-3 game with two runs scored, while Dalton Hiltbrand was 2-3 with three runs scored and a walk and Kurtis Niehues finished 2-3 with a double, homer three RBI and two runs scored. Austin Bonnel and Cole Siebenmorgan had the only two hits for Atchison.

Game two was much of the same for Seneca as they would out-hit Atchison 9-3 and score five in the fourth and three more in the fifth to earn the 8-0 win. Cody Rottinghaus earned the win on the mound pitching five innings limiting Atchison to three hits and struck out four, while going 2-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Dustin Rottinghaus and Luke Haverkamp joined him with a multi-hit game each finishing 2-3.

The two wins pushed Seneca to 18-4 on the season and 13-3 in League play, while Atchison fell to 8-8 on the year and 6-6 in League action.

Doniphan County Shuts Down Sabetha for Pair of League Wins

In a League showdown on Sunday it proved to be a one-side affair as Doniphan County shutdown Sabetha for a pair of wins, 12-1 and 16-2 on the road.

Game one, Doniphan County brought the offense out-hitting Sabetha 13-1, while earning the 12-1 win in four innings as Caleb Winkel pitched the complete game for the win giving up just one run on one hit. Offensively Chris Winkel, Phoenix Keller, Tucker Morris and Jeffrey Watts all had a two hit game, while Keller blasting a grand slam in the contest. Blake Popkess scored the lone run of the game for Sabetha in the bottom of the fourth.

Game two proved to be a closer game until the seventh inning when Doniphan County who was leading 8-2, doubled up their score plating eight in the seventh on eight hits and a walk to go on and win 16-2. Cooper Leach started the game going four innings for the win, while Keller pitched three innings of scoreless relief. Watts led the offense going 3-4 with two runs scored with three stolen bases, while Gaarder, Keller, Morris and Lane Spiker each had a pair of hits. Gaarder added four RBI's to his night, while Keller had two RBI's and two runs scored.

The two wins pushes Doniphan County to 18-3 on the season and 7-3 in League action, while Sabetha falls to 7-20 and 4-10 in League action.

Seneca Routes Frankfort for a Pair of Road Wins

Seneca continued they roll this season streaking their current winning streak to 10 straight games with a double header sweep of Frankfort on the road, claiming 12-2 and 12-1 wins.

Things started to click early in game one for Seneca as they plated nine runs in the first on seven hits, two hit batters and a walk to take early control of the game and go on to win 12-2 in five innings. Alex Rottinghaus earned the win on the mound for Seneca going five innings giving up two runs on three hits, two walks and striking out nine, while Seneca out-hit Frankfort 12-3 in the contest. Matt Haverkamp, Tim Nolte, Dustin Rottinghaus and Devin Henry each registered a two hit game. Frankfort had a two hit game from Cody Heurter, while Christian Buessing also had a hit and an RBI in the loss.

Game two was much of the same for both teams as Seneca won 12-1 in four innings plating four runs in each of the first two frames and again out-hitting Frankfort 12-3. Dalton Hiltbrand earned the win on the mound giving up just one run on three hits and recording seven strikeouts in four innings, while also going 3-4 with a homer, three RBI's and three runs scored. Dustin Rottinghaus also notched a home run for Seneca finishing 3-3 with three RBI's and three runs scored. Henry, Alex Rottinghaus and Nolte each added a two hit game apiece for Seneca. Frankfort in the loss got a hit from Wyatt VanDorn, Huerter and Dustin Talley.

With the wins Seneca improves to 20-4 on the season and 15-3 in League play, while Frankfort falls to 3-11 on the year and 2-10 in League action.
