It was non-league Tuesday in the Northeast Kansas League as five League teams were in action all in non-league play.

Seneca, Hiawatha and Oskaloosa all were in action in double headers as Seneca hosted Silver Lake, Hiawatha welcomed Falls City (NE) to town and Oskalosoa traveled to Ozawkie. It was win 24 and 25 on the season picked up for Seneca as they swept Silver lake with 8-3 and 11-1 victories, while Falls City and Hiawatha split their double header at Noble Park with Falls City winning 10-2 and Hiawatha taking the nightcap 6-3. (Oskaloosa scores have not been reported yet)

Doniphan County and Sabetha were both also in action on Tuesday in one senior legion contest each and they faced off against the same opponent but came away with different results against Marysville at Somerset Park in Sabetha. Game one saw Doniphan County breeze past Marysville 11-1 in four innings, while a late mistake ultimately hurt Sabetha in the nightcap against Marysville as they suffered the 4-3 loss.

Seneca Picks Up Pair of Non-League Victories Over Silver Lake

It continues to be a strong season as Seneca squared off with Silver Lake on Tuesday night and earned wins 24 and 25 on the season with an 8-3 victory and 11-1 four inning win.

Game one saw Seneca take the early lead as they plated three in the first and two more in the second to lead 5-0 and they would not relinquish the lead going on for the 8-3 win. Cody Rottinghaus led Seneca on the mound with another strong pitching performance giving up three runs on nine hits and four walks with 10 strikeouts in six innings. Andrew Oller led the offense going 2-3 with a home run, two RBI's and a run scored, while Alex Rottinghaus added a 2-4 performance.

The offense continued to roll along in the second game as Seneca took the early lead again scoring three in the first and five more in the second and went on to earn the 11-1 run-rule four inning win. Behind a 14-hit attack Seneca cruised to the win over Silver Lake as Oller continued his strong offensive night going 3-3 with two doubles, two RBI's and a run scored, while Cody Rottinghaus, Dalton Hiltbrand and Dylan Schraad each had two-hits.

With the two wins Seneca improved to 25-5 on the season.

Hiawatha Splits Twin Bill with Falls City

It was a tale of two games at Noble Park in Hiawatha on Tuesday as Hiawatha hosted Falls City (NE) and the teams split their legion double header with Falls City claiming a 10-2 win and Hiawatha winning the nightcap 6-3.

Falls City scored early and often plating two runs in each of the first four innings, while limiting Hiawatha
to two runs during that time and using that lead and the pitching of Logan Scheitel earned the 10-2 road win. Scheitel finished the game going all seven innings giving up two runs on four hits, two walks and struck out nine. Dakota Bayles, Ryker Smith, Andrew Lierz and Brendan Steele each registered a hit for Hiawatha in the loss.

Hiawatha took the night cap 6-3, despite having five errors and issuing 10 free passes to Falls City as they held Falls City to one-hit in the game and took advantage of their four hits and seven walks. The early lead went to Hiawatha with four runs in the second using three hits, a trio of walks and an error, but Falls City drew within three in the top of the fifth. Falls City had two guys on via walks in the fifth with two outs when Hiawatha made a pitching change with Taylor Jacobsen coming in for starter Shawn Green and Jacobsen walked the bases loaded on the first batter he faced, but then secured the Hiawatha win after recording a strikeout for the final out of the game. Green earned the win in four and two-thirds, while Jacobsen picked up the save.

With the split Hiawatha moved to 9-16 on the season.

Doniphan County & Sabetha Take on Marysville at Somerset Park

Both Doniphan County and Sabetha took on Marysville on Tuesday night as Sabetha hosted the action at Somerset Park and it was two different outcomes for the two Northeast Kansas League teams.

Doniphan County and Marysville started off the night in what was a lopsided affair as Doniphan County cruised to the 11-1 win in four innings. Jeffrey Watts picked all four frames surrendering just one unearned run on three hits to earn the win, while Reid Greaser led the offense going 3-3 with three runs scored. Nathan Gaarder and Phoenix Keller both added 1-2 performances with three and two RBI's, respectively. The win makes Doniphan County 25-3 on the season overall.

In the nightcap Marysville took on Sabetha and took advantage of an errant pickoff attempt in the top of the seventh to defeat Sabetha 4-3 in what was a pitcher's duel. Tommy Brinegar earned the win for Marysville allowing three runs on four hits with five strikeouts, while Dustin Gruber allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits with eight strikeouts for Sabetha in the loss. Zach Burger registered Sabetha's only RBI in the contest, as Sabetha fell to 9-25 on the year.
