Day two of the AA legion State tournament started off with a pair of elimination games but it was a winner's bracket contest for Doniphan County on Thursday. Unfortunately when the day ended Doniphan County found themselves in the elimination bracket after a tough 3-2 loss to Hays. 

Doniphan County in the top of the second inning looked primed to take the initial lead but stranded two runs and in the bottom of the second the Hays Monarchs used three straight hits to start the inning off and on a Justin Pfeifer RBI single took a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third Doniphan County took the lead on a pair of RBI singles by Nathan Gaarder and Tucker Morris, giving Doniphan County a 2-1 lead going into the fourth. The offense looked to continue to be rolling in the top of the fourth for Doniphan County as they loaded the bases with nobody out but left the bases loaded and in the bottom of the fourth Reed Hockett had a two RBI double to score two runs to take a 3-2 lead. Doniphan County had a few more opportunities down the stretch of the game but ultimately fell 3-2 to Hays falling to the elimination bracket of the AA legion State tournament.

Jeffrey Watts took the loss on the mound despite pitching solidly for Doniphan County giving up just three runs on six hits, a hit batter and two strikeouts. While offensively Doniphan County was hurt by 10 guys left on base in the contest, as Caleb Winkel led the offense going 2-3 and Reid Greaser who was 1-2 with a run scored and two walks earned McDonald's "Player of the Game" on KNZA radio.

The loss ends a 17-game winning streak for Doniphan County and puts them at 29-4 on the season. The AA legion State tournament continues Friday morning for Doniphan County as they play Iola at 10:00am in an elimination contest. Doniphan County with a win would play again at 7:30pm in another elimination game.
