Pleasant Ridge Boys Win & Atchison Girls Take Second at Basehor-Linwood Cross Country Invite

Atchison, Pleasant Ridge and Maur Hill-Mount Academy cross country teams kick started their season's on Thursday at the Basehor-Linwood Invitational and put together strong performances.

The top team performance for the area teams came in the boys action as Pleasant Ridge took home the top spot using five Top 18 performances to claim first place of nine teams competing, edging Basehor-Linwood by three points for first. The Atchison boys took home fifth, while Maur Hill placed sixth as a team. 

For the girls it was the Lady Red of Atchison picking the best team performance for the area teams as they place second as a team with five Top 17 performances leading the charge, including an individual first place. The Pleasant Ridge girls brought home a fourth place team finish just one point off of third place, while Maur Hill girls took seventh out of nine teams. 

Individually it was Atchison runner, Sarah Jaloma with the best area finish as she took home the gold and started her senior year off with a bang posting a winning time of 21:35.68 to win the Basehor-Linwood Invite. Five more Lady Redmen had Top 20 finishes on the day as Haley Greibat took ninth (23:50.74), Lyndi Hanson placed 11th (23:58.65), Hailey Macierowski ran to a 12th place finish (24:05.68), while Emily Jaloma placed 17th (24:47.65) and Teagan Hanson place 20th (25:00.52) (Skyler Blakely took 21st place for Atchison). 

The Maur Hill girls were led by the performance of Grace Siebert who paced her way to a sixth place finish behind a time of 23:13.30, while Pleasant Ridge girls had two Top 20 finishers as Bridget Howard and Taylor Satre took 13th and 16th place, respectively with times of 24:09.43 and 24:44.40. 

All three area teams in the boy's competition had multiple Top two finishers and one finisher each in the Top five. 

Maur Hill Raven senior, Jack Siebert took home the silver medal after posting a time of 18:30.62, while his teammate Ayden Black took 19th place 20:26.71. For Atchison it was Simon Holly leading the way as he took home the bronze medal with a time of 18:59.58, Matthew Sowers joined him in the Top 10 finishing sixth behind a time of 19:26.49. Pleasant Ridge who brought home the team crown had five Top 20 finishers, led by Ronny Jared who placed fifth after notching a time of 19:23.84, while Gabe Younger took ninth (19:55.68), Noah Tattershall ran to a 12th place finish (20:07.65), Garrett Silvers finished 16th (20:16.34) and Clayton Price took 18th place (20:21.18). 

The cross country season started off well for all three teams and they will look to use the early season momentum to spring board them through the rest of the season.
