Kansas Football Rankings Released After Week 2 Action

Two weeks of football has been played in the State of Kansas and while many area teams have started the season off strong only three remain in the rankings, with only one of the three area teams in all four rankings. 

At the 8-Man Division I level the Hanover Wildcats continue to check in, in the rankings this week and finally broke into the Kpreps rankings. The Wildcats are 2-0 on the year after a 62-30 road win over Frankfort last Friday and are ranked first in the Topeka-Capital Journal, while coming in at third in the Kansasprepfootball and VarsityKansas polls, while fourth in the Kpreps. 

The Axtell Eagles remain ranked fifth in the VarsityKansas polls after moving to 1-1 on the season with a 60-12 in at Lewiston (Neb), while the Eagles are in the other to watch category in the other polls. Frankfort is also still getting attention in a few polls after a 1-1 start to the season that saw them take a loss to Hanover in week two. 

In Class 2-1A a pair of Twin Valley League teams are garnering attention in the polls as both Doniphan West and Troy are in the others to watch categories in several polls. Doniphan West is 2-0 to start the season for the first time since 2011 and beat Valley Heights 35-34 last week, while Troy ended Centralia's long TVL winning streak with a 37-34 win to move to 1-1 on the season, last Friday. 

Class 3A has several area teams looking to break into the polls after solid starts to the season as Nemaha Central, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Washington County and Centralia are all getting attention. The Thunder are 2-0 on the season after a 39-6 win at Riverside in week two, while Washington County is also 2-0 after beating Onaga 46-0 in week two. Maur Hill opened their season with a 21-2 win over Jackson Heights to start the year 1-0 and Centralia is 1-1 on the season after a tough loss to Troy in week two. 

The Holton Wildcats remain ranked in two of the four in the Class 4A-Division II polls as they are ranked fourth by Kpreps and fifth by VarsityKansas despite an 0-2 start to the season that saw them take a 20-13 road loss in week two to Maize South. Fellow Big Seven League schools in Jeff West and Royal Valley are getting attention in some polls. The Tigers are 2-0 to start the season after a 22-14 win at Wamego and Royal Valley routed Hiawatha 61-6 in week two to move to 1-1 on the year. 

Atchison after a 2-0 start to the season has started to get attention in Class 4A-Division I polls as the Redmen topped KC Sumner 52-8 in week two.
