Sabetha Girls Tennis Performs Well at Hayden Quad & Washburn Rural Invite

The Sabetha Bluejays finished out the regular season with two competitions this week competing at the Hayden Quad and Washburn Rural Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday and posted plenty of top notch performances and well as continued to build team comradery. 

The week started off for the Bluejays on Tuesday at the Hayden Quad were they would go 7-5 on the day as a team and finish second as a team. A trio of second place finishes paced them on the day as Lexi Wenger and Courtney Plattner each took second in singles play and the team of Savanna Metzger and Laura Edelman grabbed second place in doubles number two action. Wenger earned 8-0 wins over Hayden and Ottawa, while falling to Bishop Miege 5-8 in singles number one action. For Plattner she also went 2-1 with 8-0 wins over Ottawa and Hayden, while also falling to Bishop Miege 5-8. 

In doubles number two it was a 2-1 day for Metzger and Edelman as they earned a pair of 8-1 wins against Hayden and Ottawa, while falling to Miege in a tough 6-8 contest. The team of Jena Winkler and Nicole Brey competed in doubles number one action and finished the day 1-2 with a win against Ottawa (8-2), but fell to Hayden (4-8) and Miege (3-8). 

Plenty of Bluejays got a chance to compete on Wednesday at the Washburn Rural Invitational and many of them had top flight performances. In doubles number one the team of Winkler and Brey notched a 3-0 record to earn first place, beating out fellow Bluejays, Metzger and Edelman in the Championship match 8-6, giving Savanna and Laura a second place finish with a 2-1 record in doubles number one. 

In singles number one it was Wenger and Plattner dominating the competition as they finished first and second, respectively. Wenger earned the 8-0 win over Plattner in the Championship match to finish the day 3-0 and Plattner posted a 2-1 record. While, Mollie Robinson also competed in singles number one action placing fifth going 2-1, winning her final two matches after a loss in the opening round action. 

Kirsten Wenger put together a strong showing for the Bluejays in the singles number two action as she posted a 4-0 record to take first place winning the Championship match 8-4. Three other Bluejays were also in action in singles number two play as Angel Hadachek finished fifth on the day going 3-1, while Addie Hunning finished sixth (2-2) and Ashten Halls placed eighth (1-3).

Three Bluejay teams competed in doubles number two at the Washburn Rural Invitational with Lauren Herbster and Jessica Stallbaumer finishing third with a 2-1 record in action. The team of Brooklyn Bauman and Jessica Payne finished the competition 1-2 and fifth place, beating fellow Bluejays, Santana Grimm and Jaydyn Graybill in the fifth place match (0-3 record for Grimm and Graybill). 

Attention now turns to Regionals for the Bluejays as they are set to compete in the 3-2-1A Regional at Maranatha Academy starting on Friday, October 9th.
