Jackson Heights 24, Valley Heights 6

For the first time since 2002, the Jackson Heights football team won a district title and will host a home playoff game next Friday against Jeff County North.  The Cobras won their sixth straight game and improved to 7-1 on the season by pulling away from an 8-0 halftime lead to beat Valley Heights 24-6 on senior night.

In a game that featured two running offenses that combined for only 2 of 7 passing for 12 yards in the air, Jackson Heights was able to finish drives, including both second half possessions and Valley Heights was turned away and came up empty on four drives inside the Cobra 30-yard-line.  The Mustangs drove 10 plays before a costly penalty led to turning their first drive over on downs at the Jackson Heights 25.  Valley Heights also had three fumbles in the second quarter despite having the football twice in the red zone.  Jackson Heights had a pair of second quarter turnovers themselves, but they capped their first offensive drive of the game on a one yard quarterback sneak by Wyatt Olberding that capped a 15 play 75 yard drive and Brady Holliday's two-point-conversion made it 8-0 early in the second quarter.

Jackson Heights got a one and four yard touchdown run from Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha, "Player to Bank On," Brady Holliday in the second half while Mason Hamilton converted both two point runs.  Both Cobra second half drives went 10 plays and Holliday led the team with 94 yards on 16 carries.  Mason Thomas had 57 yards rushing while Mason Hamilton and Adam Brey each added more than 40 yards rushing as well for Jackson Heights.

Valley Heights cut the lead to 16-6 after a one yard touchdown run by Keaton DeWalt with 1:26 left in the third period, but their two-point run failed and their only other second half possession ended on downs at the Cobra 28 yard line after a fourth down and 17 play.  DeWalt had 64 yards while quarterback, Logan Woodyard led the Mustangs with 83 yards on 15 carries.  Valley Heights finished the season (2-6) with 19 fumbles and lost four games by five points or less.

The Jackson Heights line, led by four seniors, Wyatt Roles, Caleb Sullivan, Auston Savage and Denison State Bank "Lineman of the Game," Lance Coe, paved the way in the second half as Jackson Heights ran for 255 yards and earn their first playoff appearance since 2012.
