Back into the flow of the basketball season with a full week of action since the holiday break and many Northeast Kansas area teams continue to be put together strong seasons. In the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings 14 area teams remain in the polls, down one from the previous rankings.

Only four of the area teams in the rankings moved in their spot in the polls from the previous week, with three of the four moving up in the rankings.

Eight Twin Valley League teams continue to be in the rankings this week between the classes of 2A, 1A-Division I and 1A-Division II. The Axtell lady Eagles who are 8-2 after beating Wetmore and Frankfort last week remain ranked tenth in the 1A-DII polls.

While in the 1A-DI polls on the girls side the Centralia Panthers are 6-1 on the season after beating Blue Valley-Randolph and Doniphan West last week and check in at third in the polls again this week. The Hanover lady Wildcats continue to be ranked eighth in the polls as they are 5-2 on the season after falling to Valley Heights in a tight two-point game last week and beating Linn. In the boys side of the rankings three of the Top four ranked teams continue to be from the TVL as Hanover, Doniphan West and Centralia rank first, third and fourth, respectively yet again in the 1A-DI polls. Hanover earned a tough one-point win over Valley Heights and beat Linn last week to move to 5-2 on the season and as been ranked number one all year. Doniphan West topped Centralia in double overtime and beat Clifton-Clyde to remain unbeaten at 6-0 on the year and continue to be ranked third. The Centralia Panthers are 6-1 on the season after falling to Doniphan West in that double overtime thriller and beating Blue Valley-Randolph.

Class 2A continues to house both Washington County girls and boys teams in the rankings, along with the unbeaten Jackson Heights boys and Valley Falls girls. The Washington County girls are up two spots this week to eighth in the 2A polls with a 7-1 record after wins over Troy and Blue Valley-Randolph, while the boys also beat both of those teams last week to move to 8-0 on the year and they remain ranked third in the latest polls. Jackson Heights Cobras are 6-0 on the year after routing McLouth and beating Valley Falls last week and come in at eighth in the polls, while fellow Northeast Kansas League team in the Valley Falls girls are ranked second again after starting 7-0 to the year with wins over Immaculata and Jackson Heights.

The Sabetha Bluejay boys and girls are a combined 14-0 on the season both starting the year 7-0 but keeping those unblemished records was not easy last week. The Sabetha girls who rank second again this week beat Royal Valley after being down nine after the first quarter and beat Riverside, also. Bluejay boys were took to overtime by Riverside but still picked up the win and had a tough one against Royal Valley, too using a strong fourth quarter to earn the win. The Sabetha boys check in at third in the rankings again this week. The Nemaha Central Thunder girls move up two spots this week to number five in the rankings with their 7-0 record after beating Royal Valley and Holton last week.

The Holton lady Wildcats continue to be the only area team in the 4A-DII rankings as they move up one spot this week to ninth in the polls after splitting their games last week. The Wildcats are 4-3 on the season after falling to Nemaha Central but beating Jeff West.

Teams continue regular season play this week and then turn their attention to midseason tournament action starting this weekend and into next week.
