KBCA High School Basketball Rankings Jan. 25th - 15 Area Teams Ranked

Many mid-season tournaments are in the books and some more are set for this coming week as high school basketball action is heating up with plenty of great performances from area teams in Northeast Kansas. The latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings have been released and 15 area teams are in the rankings with seven on the move from last week and a new area team in the rankings. 

Between 2A, 1A-DI and 1A-DII the Twin Valley League now has nine girls and boys teams in the KBCA rankings. Class 1A-DII continues to house the Axtell lady Eagles as they once again are ranked tenth this week in the polls and are 11-3 on the season after going 2-1 in the TVL Tournament and taking third place. 

In Class 1A-DI in the boys poll three TVL teams continue to dominate the Top four in the rankings with Hanover remaining number one in the latest poll again and both Doniphan West and Centralia following them in second and fourth in the poll this week. The Wildcats finished fifth in the TVL Tournament most recently and are 9-3 on the season and continue to hold the number one spot. Doniphan West jumped up one spot to second in the polls after going 2-2 in the TVL Tournament finishing sixth and now are 8-2 on the year. Centralia Panthers remained ranked fourth again this week after taking fourth in the TVL Tournament with a 1-2 showing, moving to 8-3 on the season. 

For the girls side of the poll in Class 1A-DI the Centralia lady Panthers are up one spot to number two this week after winning the TVL Tournament title for the second straight and 11th time in school history. The Panthers went 3-0 in the Tournament and improved to 10-1 on the season in the process. The Hanover lady Wildcats finished second in the TVL Tournament going 3-1 in action and sit at 9-3 on the season, but fell in the latest rankings moving down one spot to eighth. 

The new area team in the KBCA rankings comes in Class 2A and that is the Troy Trojan boys as they jump into the rankings at ninth after going 4-0 in the TVL Tournament to win the tourney and improve to 11-1 on the season. The Washington County Tigers took third in the TVL Tournament and suffered their first loss of the season in the tourney falling to Troy and sit at 11-1 on the year and rank fifth this week, down two spots. The lady Washington County Tigers also remain in the rankings but fell three spots to tenth after finishing seventh in the TVL Tournament going 2-2 in the tourney to move to 9-3 on the season. One of only a few teams in Northeast Kansas that remain unbeaten the lady Dragons of Valley Falls remained ranked second after being idle last week and will be in the JCN Invitational this coming week. 

Both Sabetha Bluejay teams remain unbeaten on the season at 11-0 and are set to play for the Burlington Invitational Championships Monday night and both continue to be ranked second this week in the girls and boys 3A polls. The lady Thunder of Nemaha Central are 8-1 on the season and were idle last week and remain ranked fifth in the latest 3A polls and will participate in the Hiawatha Invitational this week. While the Royal Valley Panther boys went 3-0 in their home Panther Classic last week and are 11-1 on the season and made a big leap in the 3A polls jumping up five spots to fifth in the rankings. 

Class 4A-DII continues to have the Holton lady Wildcats in the polls as they moved down one spot but remain in the rankings at tenth with a 7-5 record on the year after taking fourth at the Basehor-Linwood Invitational last week.
