Jeff West Wins Final Flurry Wrestling Tourney at Atchison While Several Area Wrestlers Perform Well

Six area teams and 14 teams overall competed on the mats on Saturday at the Final Flurry wrestling tournament in Atchison and several area grapplers came out with top notch performances. 

The Jeff West Tigers posted 132 points on the day and brought home the hardware as the top team winning the competition by 15 points over Perry Lecompton who finished second place. The host Atchison took seventh place as a team, while Oskaloosa, Hiawatha and Maur Hill-Mount Academy finished 11th, 13th and 14th as teams but have top individual performances on the day. 

Jeff West was led by a quartet of first place finishes as Shane Kelly (106lbs), Austin Michaelis (113lbs), Brandon Callahan (132lbs) and Nich Reeb (160lbs) all placed first in their weight classes. Kelly posted a 2-0 record on the day with a pair of pinfall wins, while Michaelis went 3-0 on the mats with a pinfall win and wins by technical fall (15-0) and major decision (11-0). For Callahan it was a 3-0 day with a pinfall win and two wins by decision 13-8 and 3-1, while Reeb also notched a 3-0 day with a 13-0 major decision win, 18-2 technical fall victory and 8-4 decision win. Three more Tigers finished with either second or third place finishes at the Final Flurry as both Luke Holloman (120lbs) and Kody Gibson (126lbs) took second place and Mason Heiden (152lbs) posted a third place finish. All three guys wrestled to a 2-1 day on the mats for the Tigers

First place finish by Nick Quinlan at 152lbs paced the Perry Lecompton Kaws on the mats on Saturday as Quinlan recorded a 3-0 day on the mats with win by pinfall, sudden victory (3-1) and major decision (9-0). Wyatt Pringle (113lbs) and Peyton Kahle (145lbs) each grabbed silver medals finishing second after posting 2-1 records on the day. A third place finish was earned by Torin Van Nest (160lbs) after going 3-1. While five other Kaws, Dalton Kahle (106lbs), Joel Guess (132lbs), Mason Rodie (195lbs), Collin Rossillon (220lbs) and Kyle Bonham (285lbs) place fourth in their weight classes. 

The host Atchison was led by a pair of second place finishers as both Spencer Vice (138lbs) and James Boatwright (170lbs) took second after 2-1 and 1-1 records on the day. Andrew Wilson (195lbs) and Gavin Rebant (113lbs) also had Top four finishes for Atchison finishing third and fourth, respectively at their weight class. 

Second place by Jared Miller at 160lbs led Oskaloosa as he posted a 2-1 record to bring home the silver, while Ben Harvey (182lbs) took third at his weight class after posting a 3-1 record on the day. 

Keenan Hinton of Hiawatha put together a strong day at 220lbs winning both of his matches to go 2-0 with a pair of pinfall wins to claim the 220lbs title at the Final Flurry. 

Maur Hill was led by Conner Wilson on the day who behind a 3-1 record took third at 138lbs and Benedict Humberg finished fourth for the Ravens at 145lbs.
