Centralia Girls & Washington County Boys Dominant in Wins

It was a battle of top teams in the Twin Valley League in Washington on Friday night was the Washington County Tigers hosted Centralia and while both schools are having strong seasons for the girls and boys on Friday the games were both one sided. Centralia girls routed Washington County 67-47 and the Tiger boys cruised past the Panthers 64-44. 

Washington County girls hit the initial bucket of the game but Centralia answered with a 7-0 run and didn't look back on the way to the 67-47 win. Centralia at the end of the first quarter led 18-8 lead by a 10-point first quarter from Cassidy Haufler and Katie Glatczak scored the other eight points for the Panthers. That lead was cut to five on a 5-0 run by Washington County in the first few minutes of the second quarter but the Panthers pushed back with Drew Kramer hitting three three-pointers in the quarter and Centralia carried a 34-22 lead into halftime. The lead grew to 20-points in the third quarter and the Panthers cruised to their 12 consecutive win. 

Haufler led Centralia on the night with 20 points, scoring in every quarter and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" on KMZA. Glatzcak added 17 points, hitting three three-pointers and Mayda Stallbaumer contributed 13 points, as Centralia moved to 13-1 on the season and 8-0 in the TVL. 

Tigers were led by Annie Otott who scored 12 points, while Mandi Allerheiligen added 11 points and Cammie Miller posted 10 points. Washington County with the loss fell to 10-4 on the season and 5-2 in the TVL. 

In the boys varsity matchup the Washington County Tigers carved up Centralia's defense with three-point shooting by Kyle McGatlin and plenty of layups. Washington County pounced on the early lead and led 15-8 after the first quarter and that lead by halftime was up to 20-points at 34-14 going into intermission, as Centralia was held to six points in the second quarter. McGatlin's sharp shooting speared headed Washington County was he had 15 points by the half and was 5-5 from three in the first half and hit his first seven three's in the contest before finally missing a few from outside. In the second half the lead was took much for Centralia to overcome and Washington County earned the 64-44 win. 

McGatlin behind his seven three's finished with 23 points and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" on KMZA for the Tigers helping them improve to 12-2 on the year and 6-1 in the TVL. Konnor Penning added 16 points on the night with most of his points coming on layups. 

Centralia with the loss fell to 9-5 on the season and 6-2 in the TVL and have lost four of the last five games. Braden Deters led the Panthers on the night scoring with 13 points. 

League action continues for both teams next Tuesday as Centralia is set to host Troy, while Washington County travels to Valley Heights.
