Four teams hungry for wins squared off on Tuesday night in Twin Valley League action as Frankfort hosted Onaga. The girl’s affair proved to be dominated by one side with Frankfort gaining the 54-25 victory, while the boy’s game went down to the wire and needed overtime to decide the winner as Onaga picked up the 54-47 win.

It was a slow start to the night for both teams as Onaga held a early 3-2 lead but Frankfort girls responded with a 9-0 run to end the first quarter and lead 11-3 after one quarter of play. That lead grew behind a 19-9 second quarter giving Frankfort the 30-12 halftime lead as freshman, Emilee Ebert posted 11 points in the second for the Wildcats finishing with 16 in the first half to give Frankfort the comfortable lead. The offensive struggles continued for Onaga in the second half and Frankfort took advantage with a 22-5 third quarter pushing themselves to the 54-25 win.

Ebert paced Frankfort with 24 points on the night hitting 8-9 free throws in the game and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" on KMZA. With the win Frankfort moves to 8-9 on the season and 5-4 in the League, while having won their last three games.

Onaga fell to 1-15 on the season with the loss and 0-8 in TVL play as seven points from Alexis VanDonge led the Buffaloes.

The boys game proved to be a thriller and close throughout the contest with Onaga using free throws to secure the 54-47 win in overtime. After one quarter it was Frankfort up 12-10 but with time winding down in the first half Onaga looked for the last shot of the half and on an offensive rebound put back by Tanner Marten took the 20-18 lead into intermission. That lead went back to Frankfort in the third quarter up 31-30 after three quarters but the lead traded hands in the fourth quarter. Down the stretch Onaga held a two-point lead and the Wildcats had to foul giving the Buffaloes a chance to extend their lead and that they did leading by seven-points in the final 22 seconds. But Frankfort got a couple of steals and points off those with a three-pointer from Whalen Kokoruda and free throws from Brendan Levi and cut into the lead. With seven seconds left in regulation Onaga went to the free throw line up by just two-points and made just one of two free throws giving Frankfort a chance for a tie with a three-pointer and as time expired Levi hit a game tying three at the top of the key to send the game into overtime.

Overtime was scoreless for quite a while but it was the free throw shooting that pushed Onaga to the win as they went 10-12 in overtime from the free throw line to outscore Frankfort 10-3 in the extra period and gain the 54-47 win.

The Buffaloes finished the game 21-31 from the free throw and improved to 6-10 on the season and 3-5 in the TVL. Tanner Marten led the way for Onaga with 16 points and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Jackson Glessner chipped in nine points, while Ben Kufahl finished with eight points all from the free throw line in the final minute of regulation and overtime.

Frankfort was led by a season high 18 points from Levi who finished 9-12 from the free throw line, while Kokoruda tallied 10 points.

League play continues for both teams on Friday, February 12th as Onaga travels to Washington County and Frankfort heads out on the road to take on Hanover.
