Nemaha Central Boys & Girls Win Big Seven Track Quad at Holton

Four Big Seven League schools squared off in action on Tuesday as Holton hosted Royal Valley, Hiawatha and Nemaha Central. At the end of the day it was the Thunder sounding big as Nemaha Central swept the girls and boys team titles and had 18 individual event wins on the day. 

Both the Thunder girls and boys won by wide margins on the day as the lady Thunder amassed 164 total points winning the meet by 73 points, while the boys scored 143 total points and won by 45.5 points. In the girls standings Hiawatha took second, Royal Valley third and Holton fourth, while on the boys side Holton took second, Royal Valley third and Hiawatha fourth. 

A trio of athletes paced the Thunder with multiple golds by themselves on the day. In the girls competition Rachael Baumgartner swept the hurdles with times of 17.24 and 49.81 to win the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, while winning the pole vault with a vault of 9'06. Allison Rottinghaus also won three events as she sprinted to the 100 meter dash win (14.07) and leapt to wins in the long jump (15'01.50) and triple jump (35'07). On the boys side of competition Jacob Koelzer won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.11 and 24.42, while leaping to the long jump crown also (21'07). 

Six more gold medals were picked up for Nemaha Central in the girls competitions as Kaley Dalinghaus tossed her way to the shot put (41'04) and javelin (132'09) crowns, while Laura Macke took first in the high jump (5'00) and Ashley Larkin earned the gold in the 400 meter dash (1:06.91). Lady Thunder also grabbed the gold in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays with times of 53.80 and 4:45.50, respectively. 

While in the boys action on top of Koelzer strong day the Thunder had Winston Meyer earn gold in the shot put (45'11.50), Caleb Bradley place first in the pole vault (13'00) and the 4x100 meter relay team take first (45.44). 

Eight first place finishes on the day led Hiawatha with Gavin Lierz at the forefront of those performances as he won the 3200 meter run (11:42.06), while also sweeping the hurdles taking first in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles behind times of 17.31 and 42.16. Hiawatha boys also won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:54.56, while the lady Red Hawks won the 4x800 meter relay too (11:08.88). Emma Williams took the girls 800 meter run (2:41.84), while Elizabetha Kettler won the 1600 meter run (5:51.84) and Emily Gartner tossed her way to first in the discus (112'06). 

The host Holton Wildcats had five first place finishes all in the boys competition on the day with Mason Strader earning two gold medals winning both the 800 (2:12) and 1600 (5:02.68) meter runs. Will Wright dashed to the win in the 400 meter dash (52.90), while Austin Frakes took the gold in the triple jump (39'08.50) and the Wildcats also won the 4x400 meter relay (3:53.02). 

Royal Valley compiled four top individual performances during the League competition as Lucas Broxterman won the high jump (6'00), Garrett Rodewald placed first in the discus (129'00), Jarrett Roy earned the gold in the javelin (156'00) and Macy Putnam took first in the girls 200 meter dash (29.21).
