Nemaha Central Sweeps Home Track and Field Invite

Eight girls and boys track and field teams competed at the Nemaha Central Invite at Thunder Stadium on Tuesday and both Nemaha teams took the team titles.  The Centralia girls were 27 points behind the second place followed by Valley Heights, while Axtell was 25 points back in second in the boys final standings. 

Nemaha Central was led by reigning area Athlete of the Week, Jacob Koelzer, who again took first place in the 100 and 200 meter dashes as well as winning the boys long jump.  In the process, Koelzer broke three new school records in the 100, 200 and long jump.  The Thunder also had Caleb Bradley win the pole vault, Winston Meyer take first in the shot put (school record), and claim the team 4x100 meter relay.  The Nemaha Central girls got three gold medals from Kaley Dalinghaus as she set new school records winning the discus and shot put while also having the best javelin throw.  Rachel Baumgartner placed first in the pole vault and and 300 hurdles while finishing second in the 100 meter hurdles and helping the Lady Thunder win the 4x100 meter relay.   Allison Rottinghaus also set a new school record in the long jump.

Axtell had nine gold medals on the day as Bradie Schmitz won both the 400 and 200 meter dash and Chelsea Smith took first in the 800 meter run.  Burke Deters won the 3200 while Caleb Heiman took grabbed gold in both boys hurdle races.  Colton Buessing won the boys javelin throw, Brice Koch of the Eagles won the boys 800 and the Axtell boys won the 4x400 relay.  

Centralia girls gained a lot of points in the long distance runs as Sadie Jones and Tamra Jones finished first and second in both the 1600 and 3200.  The Lady Panthers also won the 4x400 relay and had Chelsea Huerter, Danielle Mueting and Breanna Schmitz place second, third and fourth in the pole vault.  Maegan Koch was second in the 400 while Katie Glatczak was second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 meter dash.  

Kayla Smith aided the Valley Heights third place team finish by winning the 100 meter dash, long jump and triple jump, while also placing second in the girls 200 meter run.  The Mustang boys won the 4x800 relay.

Onaga's lone champion was Logan Marten in the boys triple jump while Eli Zidek was second in the discus and shot put, Garrett Ames placed second in both hurdle races and Cheyenne Bronkow was runner up in the girls shot put.

Wetmore got runner-up boys medals from Steve Brooks in both the 100 and 200 while Curtis Bloom also placed in the top four of both events for the Cardinals.
