Competing at the Division I level in any sport is tough and clearly all the sports are full of great athletes and track and field is no exception to that. Former Nemaha Central Thunder, Shaylyn Stallbaumer has quickly proved she belongs in that category as a top athlete in track and field as she has started her Kansas Jayhawk track career in a big way.

Stallbaumer who committed to KU to throw the javelin has participated in two competitions so far this outdoor track season for the Jayhawks and already has her name in the record books at KU and among the top throwers in the nation just as a freshman. Last week at the KU Relays in a quad competition against competitors from Nebraska, Rice and Colorado State it was Stallbaumer atop the leaderboard at the end of the javelin competition notching a toss of 167'05. That toss ranks her fourth all-time in KU history and currently sits as the fourth best throw this season in the Big 12 and 18th best throw overall this year in NCAA Division I.

The Jayhawk freshman in her first meet of the season at the Mesa Classic in Arizona had a throw of 159'1, which at the time was good for fourth best in KU history all-time (surpassing that throw with her latest mark) and put her in the Top 25 nationally after one meet.

The former Nemaha Central Thunder is off to a promising and tremendously strong start to her college athletic career and looks to continue her progress the rest of the track season for the Jayhawks.
