Jeff West Girls Win Royal Valley Track Invite, Oskaloosa Boys Take Second

The Royal Valley Panthers played host to several area teams along with others for track and field action on Thursday and the competition proved to be highly competitive. 

Jeff West lady Tigers pounced on a team title at the Royal Valley Invitational in impressive fashion winning the team crown by 31 points after scoring 129 to take first over Silver Lake who took second with 98 and Royal Valley grabbed third with 90 points. Finishing out the team standings was Maur Hill-Mount Academy in fourth, Holton fifth place, Atchison in sixth, McLouth took seventh and Oskaloosa in eighth place in the girl’s action. 

The boy’s competition was a lot tighter at the top of the team standings as Silver Lake took first place but only by nine points over Oskaloosa. Silver Lake tallied 109 points, while Oskaloosa registered 100 total points on the day and with 86 points Maur Hill took third place. Finishing out the team standings in the boys competition was Royal Valley in fourth just one-point behind Maur Hill for third, Jeff West took fifth place, Holton placed sixth, McLouth seventh and Atchison eighth. 

Of the area teams in action it was the Ravens of Maur Hill claiming the most individual event winners on the day with seven. In the boys action Jack Siebert took home a pair of golds winning the 800 and 3200 meter runs behind times of 2:08.19 and 10:24.53, while Karim Majed won the 400 meter dash (53.60) and the Raven boys won the 4x800 meter relay (9:04.42). The lady Ravens took the gold in the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays with times of 4:21.80 and 10:20.56, while Mary Colwell won the javelin (94'05). 

Leading the way for the Jeff West Tigers was Makenzie Tucker who won the girls 800 meter run (2:37.96) and the pole vault (8'06), helping Jeff West had six event wins on the day. Three more came in the girls competition as Mariah Murdie won the triple jump (37'08), Alyssa Garza took first in the shot put (34'11) and Makayal Greene won the discus (118'10.25). Joshua Massey was the only Tiger boys competitor to earn a first place as he won the shot put with a toss of 43'11. 

The Oskaloosa Bears like the Tigers of Jeff West had six event wins on the day at the Royal Valley Invitational and all six came in the boys competition. Dillon Grother paced the Bears sweeping the hurdles with times of 16.00 and 41.82 to win the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, while also winning the triple jump (42'04). The 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays belonged to the Bear boys as they earned first place in each event with times of 44.74 and 3:41.97, while Tommy Molder won the 200 meter dash (23.68). 

The Royal Valley Panthers also grabbed six event wins at their home meet with Kate Hanshaw snatching two of those as she ran to the gold in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 5:50.65 and 12:59.47, respectively. Macy Putnam also earned a first place finish in the girl’s action winning the 300 meter hurdles (49.65). While in the boys action Lucas Broxterman, Garrett Hicks and Jarrett Roy each won an event. Broxterman took first in the high jump (6'02), while Hicks won the pole vault (11'00) and Roy tossed his way to first in the javelin (158'08). 

Both Holton and McLouth had two event winners on the day at the Royal Valley Invite. For the Wildcats Justin Pool won the boys 100 meter dash (11.30) and Andrew Harrison won the boys discus (136'04). McLouth had Anna Moore win the girls 100 meter dash (13.23) and Tristan Funk take first in the boys 1600 meter run (5:06.84).
