Centralia Girls & Washington County Boys Win TVL Track Titles

The Twin Valley League is ultra-competitive in every sport and track and field is no different as all the League schools and athletes competed for the League title in track on Thursday in Blue Rapids as Valley Heights hosted the action. 

In the boys action it was Washington County at the top of the team standings after all the events giving the Tigers the TVL title as they scored 136 total points, winning by 60 points. Hanover brought home second place, while Axtell, Frankfort and Onaga rounded out the Top five boys’ team finishes placing third, fourth and fifth, respectively. The rest of the boys team finishes had Valley Heights sixth, Doniphan West seventh, Centralia eighth, Blue Valley-Randolph ninth, Wetmore tenth, Clifton-Clyde 11th, Linn 12th and Troy 13th. 

The girl’s race for the TVL track title was a little tighter than the boy’s competition but the Centralia Panthers behind 126 total points won the League title by 27 points. Valley Heights snagged second place, while Axtell took third, Washington County fourth and Linn rounded out the Top five in fifth. The rest of the girls team finishes had Hanover sixth, Doniphan West seventh, Clifton-Clyde eighth, Onaga ninth, Troy tenth, Blue Valley-Randolph 11th, Frankfort 12th and Wetmore 13th. 

The host Valley Heights and Hanover each had the most events wins on the day between the girls and boys competitions with seven each. For the Mustangs Kayla Smith grabbed a pair of golds winning the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.98 and winning the triple jump behind a leap of 36'11.50 setting a new TVL record in the event, breaking a record set back in 2004. Shelby Vermetten also won two events for Valley Heights as she notched the top throws in the shot put (38'06) and discus (124'02) to take first, while Brandi Jo Roepke leapt past the competition in the long jump (16'10.25) for first place. In the boys action Adrian Pishny raced to the win the 1600 meter run (4:47.02). 

Hanover Wildcats had five of their seven first place finishes come in the boys action as the Wildcat boys swept the relays winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays with times of 44.64, 3:33.54 and 8:40.72. Matthew White earned two gold medals by himself also as he sprinted to wins in the 100 and 400 meter dashes behind times of 10.95 and 53.40. 

Six first place finishes led the Axtell Eagles on the day at the TVL meet including a new TVL record in the boys 800 meter run set by Brice Koch as he won the event with a time of 1:58.86 beating out the record set back in 2013. Caleb Heiman also earned a first place finish in the boy’s competition winning the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.98. In the girls action Bradie Schmitz paced the lady Eagles sprinting to the win in the 200 and 400 meter dashes behind times of 26.83 and 59.91, while the lady Eagles won the 4x800 meter relay (10:21.89) and Mariah Deters finished first in the high jump with a leap of 5'04. 

Centralia lady Panthers had a quartet of event winners on their way to the girls TVL League title. On the track Tamra and Sadie Jones won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, respectively with times of 5:55.95 and 13:39.23, while in the field in the Madison Lueger won the javelin (123'06) and Breanna Schmitz took first in the pole vault (10'00). 

Washington County Tiger boys used four first place finishes to help them claim the TVL League title and all four of those performances came in the field events. Levi Gauby won the triple jump (41'11.25), Jae Eaton took first in the shot put (51'01), Hunter Kier placed first in the discus (155'02) and Jerrod Hoover won the high jump (6'04). 

Doniphan West, Frankfort and Blue Valley each had a pair of event winners on the day. Carson Lackey and Kody Collins won the boys 200 meter dash (23.29) and 110 meter hurdles (15.43), respectively. 

Frankfort was led by Sheldon Parthemer and Ryan Kraushaar who won the boys pole vault (13'00) and javelin (173'03), respectively. 

Blue Valley had Griffin Vincent win the boys long jump (20'06.50) and Georgia Hatesohl took first in the girls 100 meter hurdles (16.12).

One event win came for competitors from Onaga, Clifton-Clyde and Linn at the TVL track meet. Michael Eisenbarth of Onaga won the boys 3200 meter run with a time of 10:21.19. 

Clifton-Clyde was led by a first place finish from Elizabeth Nobert who won the girls 300 meter hurdles behind a time of 49.04. 

Linn's first place finish came by the lady Bulldogs 4x100 meter relay team posting a time of 52.51 to take the gold. 

The Twin Valley League teams now turn their attention to Regional action coming up next Friday, May 20th as they will try and compete for a spot at State. Axtell, Centralia, Hanover, Clifton-Clyde, Wetmore, Linn, Blue Valley, Doniphan West and Onaga will be at the Class 1A Regional hosted by fellow TVL school Frankfort, while Washington County and Troy will all compete at the Class 2A Regional hosted by fellow TVL school Valley Heights.
