For the third straight year the Troy Trojans baseball team is making the trip to the Class 2-1A State tournament after claiming the Regional title on Thursday in Lenexa.

The Trojans after a first round bye in Regionals took on Maranatha in the Semifinals and it proved to be a pitchers duel to the tune of only one run being scored and a combined eight hits in the game. Maranatha looked to strike early with a pair of hits in the first but stranded both runners and another in the second and then Troy pitcher, Reid Greaser settled in for the first of the game giving up only three more base runners to the Eagles the rest of the game, two via errors and one via a walk. The Trojans offense was stymied by Chase Grouley of Maranatha who only gave up five hits to the Trojans but Troy partnered two of those hits together with two-outs in the second to produce the only run of the game. Luke Smith with two-outs laced a ball into play for a double and Wyatt Huss followed him with an RBI single to score Smith for the only run of the game and Troy won 1-0.

Greaser on the mound was strong on the mound with the complete game shutout, surrendering just three hits and a walk to earn the win.

Doniphan West edged the host of the Regional KC Christian in the other Semifinal winning 6-4 to move into the Regional Championship contest against Troy.

In the Championship contest it was a battle of Doniphan County and Troy came out on top again against Doniphan West to extend their winning streak and earn a spot at State. The Trojans offense awoke in the Championship producing 10 runs on 11 hits, while Doniphan West mustered just one hit and four base runners in the contest. The Trojans took the lead in the bottom of the second with two runs on a two RBI double by Wyatt Huss making it 2-0 early. Troy added four runs in the third, three in the fourth and finished the game in the bottom of the sixth with another run on a RBI double by Chris Winkel to earn the 10-0 win in six innings over Doniphan West.

Brody Winder shutdown the Mustang offense pitching the complete game shutout surrendering only four baserunners via one-hit, two walks and a runner reaching on an error. Leading the Troy offensive attack was Winkel who was 3-4 with a double, run scored and two RBI's, while Greaser and Huss each had a two-hit game.

The win pushes the Trojans to 19-2 on the season (one win accredited via the first round BYE in Regionals) and stretches their win streak to 18-straight games, while earning them a spot at State for the third straight year. Troy makes the trip to Great Bend to start the Class 2-1A State tournament next Thursday, May 26th to be played at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
