Doniphan County Continues to Pound Out the Runs Sweeping Sabetha in Twinbill

Scoring hasn't been a problem all season for Doniphan County and that trend continued on Tuesday night at Sabetha as Doniphan County earned a double header sweep, 15-7 in six innings and 10-0 in four innings to remain unbeaten on the season.

Doniphan County scored early and often in game one plating a run in the first and three more in the second with a two-run homer by Wyatt Huss highlighting the inning. But the early 4-0 lead evaporated for Doniphan County in the bottom of the second as Sabetha used three hits, an error and walk to score four runs tying the game at 4-4 as Joe Gruber and Matt Burdick had RBI singles in the inning. The lead went right back to Doniphan County in the top of the third after scoring two runs, but again Sabetha answered the call tying it at 6-6 with two runs in the bottom of the third. Over the next three innings Doniphan County went on to outscored Sabetha 9-1 and secure the 15-7 win in six innings; scoring four in the fourth and five in the fifth but also surrendered their most runs to an opponent in a game this season in seven to Sabetha.

Wil Smith led the 12-hit attack for Doniphan County going 3-4 with a three-run home run, double, five RBI's and two runs scored and earned McDonald's "Player of the Game" on KNZA. Tucker Morris added a 3-4 game with a double and triple, while Huss earned the win on the mound and was 2-4 with three RBI and Luke Smith had two hits and four RBI's. Sabetha in the loss was led by Gruber who went 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBI's.

Doniphan County jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning of game two, using five hits and four Sabetha errors to take the early advantage and went on to claim the 10-0 win in four innings. Brody Winder earned the win on the mound striking out 11 in four innings, while giving up just two hits, two walks and only five total base runners to Sabetha. Winder added a two RBI double to his game, while Nathan Gaarder led the offense going 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Matt Burdick and Brandon Brownlee registered the only two hits for Sabetha in the loss.

With the two wins Doniphan County continues to remain unbeaten on the season improving to 17-0 on the year and will travel to Leavenworth on Wednesday to continue their season, while Sabetha fell to 15-10 on the year with the losses and next travels to Silver Lake on Thursday (6:00pm game of the double header will be broadcasted on 103.9 KNZA).

Oskaloosa and Silver Lake Split Double Header

It was a tale of two different ballgames at Silver Lake on Tuesday night as they played host to Oskaloosa for a double header. Silver Lake took game one in a lopsided affair winning 13-3 in four innings, while Oskaloosa snagged game two in a tight ballgame, winning 10-8.

Game one saw Silver Lake score early and often establishing a 4-0 lead after the first inning and added two runs in the second, one in the third and finished the game with six runs in the fourth for the 13-3 four inning win. Tyler Layton and Wyatt Heiman led Silver Lake offensively with two hits each, but Silver Lake only managed five hits in the game, but took advantage of four Oskaloosa errors and some free passes. Kyle Frick picked up the win on the mound for Silver Lake holding Oskaloosa to just one-hit.

Oskaloosa's bats awoke in game two scoring three runs in the first and second innings for an early 6-0 lead and led 7-0 going into the bottom of the third. Silver Lake got back into the contest in the third scoring six runs in the third and another in the fourth to tie the game at 7-7. After each team posted a tally in the fifth, Oskaloosa posted a run in the sixth to regain the lead and plated another in the seventh to earn the 10-8 win on the road for the split.
