Marysville Ends Seneca's Season In Legion AA Zone Consolation Championship

AA Zone tournament in Sabetha wrapped up on Friday night with the consolation championship and a bid to the AA State tournament up for grabs between Marysville and Seneca. 

It was the fourth match up of the season between the two teams with Marysville coming out on top the previous three in close affairs and the fourth time around proved to be the same as Marysville claimed the win in a close contest winning 4-3. 

Marysville took the early lead in the bottom of the first using three walks, a hit batter, error and two passed balls to score two runs. Seneca broke through in the third plating three runs to take the lead without registering a hit using five walks, a hit batter, passed ball and sacrifice fly. Pair of infield singles, along with a walk and RBI groundout scored a run in the bottom of the third for Marysville to tie the game at 3-3. The lead swung back to Marysville in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Jacob Stryker to make it 4-3. Seneca saw who stranded 10 runners in the game garnered runners in the sixth and seventh but were unable to score as Marysville secured the 4-3 win. 

Stryker pitched the final inning to secure the win and picked up the save, while Derek Roever pitched a strong three and one third innings of strong relief earning the win. With the save and the RBI single that produced the winning run, Stryker earned McDonald's "Player of the Game" on KNZA. 

In the loss Seneca had Neil Sudbeck toss six innings giving up four runs on three hits, five walks, a hit batter with three strikeouts. While, Dalton Hiltibrand and Dylan Schraad registered the only Seneca hits and Sudbeck drew four walks. 

Marysville with the win joins Doniphan County from the Sabetha AA Zone as teams headed to the State tournament in Fort Scott next week with the tournament slated to start Wednesday, July 27th.
