As the football season approaches many area athletes gear up for the high school season but several athletes from the area have continue their football careers in college and a pair of them have been selected to the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Preseason team.

Former Onaga Buffalo, Mitch Kufahl and former Sabetha Bluejay, Levi Huneke come into their seniors years tabbed as All-KCAC preseason picks after strong junior years for the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes and Ottawa Braves, respectively.

Kufahl helped the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan to a 10-2 record last year and was part of the highest scoring offense in the KCAC (37.2 ppg) last year, lining up at tight end. Mitch hauled in 23 passes for 445 yards and six touchdowns in eight games last year, ranking tenth in the league in receiving yards and was selected All-KCAC first team after his junior year. While in 19 games for the Coyotes in his career he has caught 67 passes for 1,184 yards and nine touchdowns. The Coyotes enter the season as one of two KCAC teams in the preseason NAIA Top 25 coming in ranked 13th to start the season.

Huneke helped the Braves of Ottawa tallying a 6-4 record last year, while being part of the second best scoring defense in the KCAC last year as the Braves held teams to 19.7 points per game. Levi finished his first year with Ottawa after transferring from Highland Community College as the team’s fourth leading tackler playing linebacker, registering 57 total tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss, a sack and fumble recovery. His strong junior year with Ottawa earned him honorable mention All-KCAC honors at linebacker last year. The Braves enter the season receiving votes in the preseason NAIA Top 25 poll.

Kufahl and Kansas Wesleyan open the season Saturday, September 3rd at Briar Cliff University in Vermillion, South Dakota, while Huneke and the Ottawa Braves open the season also on the 3rd on the road at #3 Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
