Kansas High School Football Preseason Rankings - Two Area Teams Tabbed Number One

The high school football season kicks off Friday in the State of Kansas and all the area teams are eager to hit the field and open the season. 

With the season getting underway the preseason rankings for all the classifications have been released by several media outlets from across the state and a few area teams will start the season ranked, while many other are garnering attention in the initial rankings of the season. 

Class 2-1A & 8-Man Division II house the top Northeast Kansas area teams in the rankings to start the season as Troy and Hanover who both finished state runner-ups last year are preseason ranked number one in multiple polls.

The Trojans who had their best finish in school history last year start the season ranked #1 by VarsityKansas, Kpreps and the Topeka-Capital Journal in Class 2-1A, while coming in second by CatchitKansas. Washington County start the season ranked #5 in the 2-1A Top five by the Topeka-Capital Journal. Other area teams picking up attention in the 2-1A preseason polls are Centralia and Jackson Heights. 

The Hanover Wildcats for the last two years have finished as state runner-up in 8-Man Division I but this year move down to Division II and start the season with a #1 ranking by VarsityKansas, Kpreps and the Topeka-Capital Journal, while coming in at second in the CatchitKansas poll. Frankfort checks in ranked #10 in the top 10 by CatchitKansas, while Axtell is also getting attention in others considered in 8-Man DII polls. For 8-Man DI polls Onaga is getting some preseason attention in polls. 

Class 4A Division II saw the Holton Wildcats finish State runner-up last year and the Wildcats come into this season getting attention in the preseason coming in ranked #2 by CatchitKansas in their Top 10, while ranked #4 by the Topeka-Capital Journal and #5 by VarsityKansas and Kpreps in their Top 5. Class 4A-DI has Atchison getting attention to start the season as they are in the others considered category in several polls and ranked #6 in Top 10 by CatchitKansas.

In Class 3A no area team finds themselves in the preseason rankings but a trio of playoff teams last year in Nemaha Central, Sabetha and Marysville all are getting attention in the others to consider category.
