Just a few days off of their first win of the season the Axtell Eagles took flight again on Monday for more football action in rare Monday varsity contest as they traveled to Miltonvale to square off with Southern Cloud and picked up the 68-30 win.

Eagles got rolling early moving down the field and punching it into the endzone on the first drive of the game on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Koch to Michael Swanson to make it 8-0 with 9:54 left in the first quarter. Southern Cloud came right back with an answer as the Warriors got a first down courtesy of a 15-yard Axtell penalty and on the next play from midfield Carson Bellows busted a 40-yard touchdown run and with the two-point conversion tied the game at 8-8.

Axtell did the rest of the scoring in the first half taking the lead back on the kickoff return as Burke Deters glided down the field for a 65-yard return and score making 14-8 after the failed two-point conversion. A one-yard touchdown run by Koch made it 22-8 through the first quarter of action and the second quarter proved to be more plentiful for Axtell's offense outscoring Southern Cloud 30-0 in the frame to head to halftime up 52-8. In the second Koch busted a 32-yard run for a touchdown, while Quinn Buessing took over at quarterback and tossed three touchdowns of 30, 29 and 40-yards with the first two going to Koch and the other to Swanson. Eagles also took advantage of three first half Southern Cloud fumbles and four turnover overall, but had four turnovers themselves too.

Southern Cloud lost their quarterback, Joe Cool to injury in the first half so Bellows took over in the first and continued to led the team in the second half against Axtell. The Eagles plugged in several reserves in the second half and the Warriors were able to take advantage of some Eagle turnovers and negative plays getting a 13-yard touchdown run by Bellows in the third quarter and Lane Martin busted a 70-yard touchdown run with nine seconds left in the third. Early in the fourth quarter Southern Cloud had Bellows visit the endzone again from 19-yards out after an Axtell fumble making it 52-30.

Axtell brought the starters back in the fourth but Southern Cloud surprised the Eagles and snatched an onside kick only to give the ball back to the Eagles on a fumble and the Eagles offense picked the scoring back up to finish the game as Quinn Buessing hit Swanson for a 36-yard touchdown and Quinn added a six-yard touchdown run to finish off the game 68-30.

Both Koch and Buessing threw for over 100 yards as Hunter finished 4-9 for 117 yards with a touchdown, while Quinn was 5-16 for 130 yards and four touchdowns and one interception. Koch ran for two scores and caught three passes for 74 yards and two scores, while Buessing added a rushing touchdown. Swanson snagged five passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns was named Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" on KMZA.

The wins pushes the Eagles to 2-1 on the season and now they have plenty of time off as they will next be at St. Paul for their fourth game of the year on Friday, September 23rd.
