Highland CC Sports Round-Up - Football Rolls to Win & Cross Country Teams Show Out Big at Southern Stampede

Scotties Football Rolls Opponent for Second Straight Week

For the second straight week Highland cruised past their opponent this time taking down Iowa Central Community College 42-2. 

The first quarter proved to be quiet in the scoring department as Highland just a 6-2 lead after one quarter of play, but things started to roll for the Scotties in the second frame to carry a 28-2 lead into halftime. Marquis Terry visisted the endzone twice in the second quarter, while Ronnie Jamison also found paydirt for Highland in the second quarter. The points continued to pile in for Highland in the second half as Terry ran for two more scores and Demarre Kitt found the endzone, also as the Scotties rolled to the 42-2 win. 

With the win Highland improves to 3-1 on the season and now turns their attention back to KJCCC play for their next game as they welcome Hutchinson Community College to town on Saturday, September 24th for a 1:00pm kick. 

Highland Cross Country Shows Out Big at Southern Stampede in Missouri 

The week started off great for the Highland Community College Scotties men's and women's cross country teams as they found out they are ranked by the NJCAA in the Top 25 and the Scotties went out on Saturday and showed why they are getting national attention in the rankings. 

Scotties traveled to Missouri Southern and competed in the Southern Stampede Invitational. The Highland men behind three Top seven performances won the Southern Stampede with 86 total points winning the team crown by 20 points, taking first out of 17 teams. Jose Jaime led the Scotties with a time of 26:29.83 to place fifth, while Zekarias Philipo took sixth (26:36.97) and Jorge Guerrero finished seventh (26:37.09). John Brunner notched a 27th place finish, while Jordan Adams took 51st place and Cole Hinton snagged 63rd place. Also competing for Highland was Jonathan Miller, Tristan Hinton, Brandt Houk, Jackson Beaver and Isaiah Smith placed 73rd, 92nd, 96th, 100th and 106th. In the men's race there were 153 runners. 

The lady Scotties finished 15th as a team on the day out 17 women's teams lead by a 55th place finish by Lakashia Willis. Ivanna Uribe placed 67th, while Kaitlyn Slagle and Katie Corrigan raced to 77th and 79th place finishes. Juliette Rios, Gisel Santiago, Bailey Mistler, and Casey Nelson posted finishes of 102nd, 106th, 128th and 130th. The women's race featured 148 runners. 

Next up the Scotties travel to Emporia State for competition on Friday, September 23rd.
