Area Girls Tennis Teams Compete at Immaculata Invite

Area teams swung the racket in girls tennis action on Monday in Leavenworth at the Immaculata Invitational as the Raiders hosted Sabetha, Marysville and Perry Lecompton along with four other schools. 

Marysville notched the best area performance taking second place as a team led a by a 4-0 day by Megan Hill who won the Singles #2 competition. Hill went 3-0 in pool play and faced off against KC Christian in the Championship match and recorded an 8-3 win to take first place, while Shelby Downard earned second in Singles #1 going 4-1 falling 3-8 in the Championship contest. The duo of Holly Holthaus and Haley Bruna with a 3-1 day snagged a third place finish in Doubles #2 for Marysville. While the team of Sarah Roberts and Avery Williams also finished 2-2 and took fourth place. 

Perry Lecompton Kaws earned third place as a team just one-point ahead of Lansing; but had a doubles team and singles competitor from Lansing compete with them. The team of Harleigh Robertson and Gracie Folks posted a 3-1 record on the day to take third in the Doubles #1 action winning the third place match 8-2 over Marysville. While, Lia Jones finished fourth in Singles #1 action going 2-2. 

Sabetha Bluejays tied for fifth as a team but were led by Savanna Metzger who posted a 3-1 record and beat Jones of Perry Lecompton to take third in Singles #1. The team of Mackenzie Garber and Mady McGill took sixth place in Doubles #2 going 1-3, while Jessica Stallbaumer and Angel Hadachek won their final match of the day to finish 1-3 and take seventh in the Doubles #2. Kirsten Wenger also took seventh place going 1-3 in Singles #2 action. 

Host Immaculata Raiders were led by Eleanor Melero who posted a 2-2 record earning fifth place in Singles #2. While, Sarah Gilbert who posted a 2-2 mark to take sixth in Singles #1. Doubles team of Hannah Nine and Emily Chmidling finished eighth in the Doubles #1 (0-4).
