Holton Takes Third, Nemaha Central Fifth & Jeff West Seventh at Wamego Volleyball Invite

A trio of Big Seven League schools traveled to Wamego on Saturday for volleyball action taking on some non-league foes in tournament action. 

At the end of the day it was all three Big Seven League teams in Holton, Nemaha Central and Jeff West finishing the day with a win and placing third, fifth and seventh at the Wamego Invitational. Santa Fe Trail and Wamego took first and second place. 

Pool play got the action rolling on the day in Pool A Nemaha Central posted a 2-2 mark beating Riley County in three sets (21-25, 25-15, 25-22) and winning in straight sets (27-25, 25-11) over Mission Valley. The Thunder fell in a tough three set contest with Santa Fe Trail (25-12, 21-25, 19-25), while also losing to the host Wamego in straight sets (23-25, 23-25). Nemaha Central finished third in the pool. 

In Pool B both Holton and Jeff West were in action going 3-1 and 2-2, respectively. The Wildcats earned straight set wins over Rock Creek (25-15, 25-23) and Circle (24-20, 25-19), while beating William Chrisman in three sets (18-25, 25-9, 25-19). But in the battle of Big Seven teams in the pool it was Jeff West getting the better of Holton winning in three sets (21-25, 27-25, 25-16). The Tigers also beat Circle (25-12, 25-23), but lost to Rock Creek (20-25, 21-25) and William Chrisman (19-25, 22-25). Holton won the pool with a 3-1 mark and Jeff West took fourth in the pool losing out on tiebreakers. 

Jeff West finished the day against Riley County in the seventh place match and the Tigers won in three sets 25-19, 15-25, 25-18 to finish the day 3-2. Nemaha Central also wrapped up the day 3-2 earning fifth place with a 25-15, 25-16 win over Rock Creek. 

The Holton Wildcats made it to the winner's bracket after winning their pool but fell to the host Wamego 22-25, 16-25 in the Semifinals. Looking to finish the day strong the Wildcats did just that with a 25-23, 25-21 win over Circle for third place and a 4-2 record on the day.
