Six Area Cross Country Squads Ranked in XC Coaches Poll

The 2016 regular season is in the books for high school cross country and Regionals loom this weekend. Headed into Regionals a new set of State rankings have been released and six area cross country teams are ranked, while nine more are getting consideration in the polls. 

Class 1A leads the area in the cross country scene in the polls as three area teams are ranked #1. In the girls rankings the Centralia Panthers make the move to #1 in the rankings after claiming the Twin Valley League title last week, while the Frankfort girls move into the polls at #6 as the Top seven are ranked in each classification. 

The boys 1A poll as a pair of Twin Valley League teams sitting at the top of the rankings as the Frankfort Wildcats who just edged Axtell for the Twin Valley League title last week remain ranked #1, but are joined by those Axtell Eagles at #1 along with South Gray. Two other TVL teams in Centralia and Wetmore are both getting consideration in the boys rankings. 

Class 3A houses the other two area teams in the rankings the lady Red Hawks of Hiawatha previously ranked #1 moved down one spot to #2 in the latest rankings. Hiawatha wrapped up their regular season winning the Big Seven League title, while the boys also won the Big Seven crown for Hiawatha and are getting consideration in the boy’s poll. The Northeast Kansas League boy’s champs in Pleasant Ridge jumped into the 3A poll coming in at #7 tied with Norton. One other area team in the Perry Lecompton girls are getting consideration in the 3A girls poll. 

The Washington County boys and girls, along with the Jefferson County North boys and Jackson Heights girls are getting attention the Class 2A rankings. While in Class 4A the Atchison girls are also garnering attention in the latest rankings.
