Centralia Girls XC Win Regional Title, While Axtell & Frankfort Boys Take Second & Third

A trio of Twin Valley League teams along with several other runners are headed to the Class 1A State cross country meet after great performances at a Regionals on Saturday hosted by Riley County. 

The Centralia lady Panthers continued their strong year by winning a Regional title posting 25 total points to win by five points and qualify for State as a team. A fifth place finish by Sadie Jones who posted a time of 22:15.46 led Centralia, while Tamra Jones took ninth place behind a time of 23:13.36. Emma Holthaus finished 13th for the Panthers, while Kaitlyn Becker and Courtney Huerter finished 25th and 26th, along with Madison Boeckman finishing 31st for Centralia. In the boys competition, Dylan Boeckman with a time of 18:12.05 placed ninth to qualify for State as an individual for the Panthers.

Axtell Eagle boys finished second place 10 points shy of the Regional title behind St. John's-Tipton but with the Top three team finish qualify for State as a team. Burke Deters paced the Eagles posting a time of 17:53.37 to finish fifth, while Oliver Schmitz placed 11th, Quinn Buessing 16th, Blake Porting 19th and Simon Schmitz 30th. Lady Eagle, Oliva Kuckelman also qualified for State as an individual runner in the girl’s race after racing to a time of 22:35.41 to place seventh. 

Frankfort Wildcat boys are headed to State as team also after placing third at Regionals finishing just seven points ahead of Wakefield for third place. Colton Parthemer led the Wildcats placing 13th, while Brandon Anderson finished 17th, Garrett Dalinghaus 21st, Brodric Shirley 23rd, Cody Evans 31st, Brendan Levi 35th and Jaron Thomas 42nd. 

Wetmore Cardinal, Aaron Achten notched a time of 18:07.52 to place eighth at Regionals and earn a spot individually at State. 

Onaga and Doniphan West each also had runners compete at the Riley County Regional.

The Class 1A State cross country competition is set for Saturday, October 29th in Wamego at the Country Club.
