The Troy Trojans have had a mindset of returning to where their season ended last year and changing the outcome this time around and they are one win away from getting back to that Class 2-1A State title game.

Standing in front of the #1 and 11-0 Troy Trojans in Class 2-1A Sub-State contest on Friday night is Pittsburg-Colgan who moved back down to 2-1A for the first time in five years and are back in familiar territory for them when they were a 2-1A school, a deep playoff run. Last time the Panthers were in the 2-1A playoff they were knocked out in the Sub-State round by TVL member Centralia in 2011 and the Centralia went on to win the State title; Colgan made the 2-1A State title game in 2010 and lost that game to Meade.

The Panthers of Pitt-Colgan this year opened the playoff downing Olpe 42-21 in the first round and then held off Washington County out of Twin Valley League in Sectionals winning 29-20. Quarterback, Billy Dickey threw for 218 yards on 10-18 passing with two touchdowns including a 97-yard strike to Jeremiah Buche in the win over Washington County, while Buche finished with three catches for 161 yards and touchdown and Max Wilson added a rushing score. The Panther defense forced three Washington County turnovers in the win. On the season Pitt-Colgan is averaging 34.5 points per game and giving up just 16 points playing to an 8-3 record with their losses coming to 4A-DII playoff teams in Frontenac and Columbus and 3A playoff team in Galena.

The Trojans have went through the season unblemished moving to 11-0 after a 42-16 opening round playoff win against fellow TVL member, Valley Heights and then taking down Lyndon 46-19 using strong second halves in both games to secure the wins. The Troy offense that averages 44.9 points per game and has scored nearly 500 points on the season is led by quarterback, Reid Greaser as he has thrown for nearly 2,500 yards and 35 touchdowns while adding a running compete to the offense too. Greaser is surrounded by a strong line and plenty of playmakers including 1,000+ yard receiver Cuttar Huss, Brody Winder who had over 900 yards receiving and a 500+ yard rusher in Alex Martinez among others. The Trojan defense has been strong too giving up just 15.5 points per game this year and has been led by Wil Smith with a monster season registering around 100 tackles and 10+ sacks this year, while the Troy defense has also scored six touchdowns themselves.

Troy enters the game hungry to get back to the State title game but also perhaps with a bit of revenge on their mind against Pitt-Colgan stemming from the baseball season as the Panthers took down the Trojans in the 2-1A semifinals of the baseball State tournament.

The winner moves on to Saturday, November 26th to Hays to play for the 2-1A State title at 1:00pm at Fort Hays State University against the winner of the Smith Center (9-2) at Plainville (10-1) contest.
