17 Area Athletes Earn KVA All-State Volleyball Honors with Two Players of the Year & Two Coaches of the Year

2016 proved to be another highly competitive volleyball season in the Northeast Kansas in the Twin Valley League, Big Seven League, Northeast Kansas League and others. Four area teams made the State tournament this year and a pair from the TVL won State titles. With the season in the book the Kansas Volleyball Association has had out All-State honors and 17 area athletes have earned All-State including a pair of players getting Player of the Year honors, along with two coaches earning Coach of the Year. 

Class 1A-Division I features eight of the 17 All-State honorees from the area led by 2016 1A-DI State Champions the Centralia Panthers who finished the season 44-1 and won the schools 13th State title, while also winning the TVL regular season and tournament titles. Centralia senior, Cassidy Haufler leads the 1A-DI honorees earning Player of the Year honors and first team All-State, while senior, Sadie Boyce and sophomore, Madison Lueger of the Panthers each were selected second team All-State. Centralia head coach, Kimbrook Tennal who surpassed 700 career wins at the State tournament was named 1A-DI Coach of the Year after guiding the Panthers to the State title. 

The Hanover Wildcats had their best finish in years in volleyball finishing State runner-up behind Centralia and posting a 38-8 record on the year. Three Wildcats were selected All-State including first team honors for senior, Ashton Jueneman and second team honors for seniors, Riley Doebele and Katelyn Jueneman. 

Frankfort Wildcats and Immaculata Raiders also had gals earn All-State honors also. Frankfort finished the season 19-17 on the year and sophomore, Emilee Ebert earned first team 1A-DI All-State honors, while Immaculata finished 26-11 and Raider freshman, Karli Schmidt picked up first team 1A-DI All-State honors. 

The Axtell Eagles won their first ever State volleyball title in school history this year capturing the 1A-Division II crown and finishing with a 27-15 record on the year. Axtell senior, Anna Buessing leads the Eagles postseason honors being named 1A-DII Player of the Year and first team All-State. Eagle senior, Maddy Kuckelman and junior, Trisha Mathewson each were selected All-State second team in Class 1A-DII. Axtell head coach, Pam Buessing who guided the Eagles to their first ever State title and top three finish the last three years was named 1A-DII Coach of the Year. 

Class 2A saw three area gals earn All-State honors with a pair of athletes from the TVL and another from NEKL. Valley Heights Mustang junior, Kayla Smith leads the area All-State honorees in 2A earning second team All-State honors. While honorable mention 2A All-State honors went to Washington County Tiger senior, Cammie Miller and Jefferson County North Charger junior, Ravyn Jobbins. 

The Nemaha Central Thunder returned to the 3A State tournament this year and finished 32-11 on the season winning the Big Seven League crown and has a pair of All-State honorees. Thunder junior, Laura Macke earned second team All-State honors, while her teammate senior, Kaley Dalinghaus snagged honorable mention All-State honors. 

Jeff West Tigers qualifed for the Class 4A-Division II State tournament and finished 23-17 on the season. Tiger junior, Mariah Murdie picked up honorable mention 4A-DII All-State honors form the KVA.
