The work of a pitcher in baseball has been a hot topic and the potential over use of arm and the Kansas State High School Activities Association has now introduced new pitching restrictions for high school baseball.

The new rule will limit pitchers to 105 pitches in a day effective the 2017 season. With the new rule the amount of pitches thrown in a day will determine the amount of days rest required for that pitcher. If a pitcher throws 76 to 105 pitches in a day they will be required to rest four days before pitching again, while it will be three day’s rest for 61-75 pitches, two days rest for 46-60 pitches, one day rest for 31-45 pitches and no days rest for 1-30 pitches. If a pitcher reaches the 105 limit during an at bat the pitcher will be allowed to finish the at bat.

A violation of the maximum pitch count in one day or violation of the proper required days of rest will result in immediate ineligibility of the violating player and the player will not be able to participate in the a contest until reinstated by KSHSAA.

The move for a pitch count comes after the National Federation of High School Associations revised their policy last summer and replaces the innings thrown rule in Kansas.
