Onaga Buffalo wrestling got the season underway on Saturday in Lincoln, KS competing at the Darrell Schmeidler Invite with two grapplers in action who both finished the day third place in their weight class. 

It was a 4-1 day on the mats for Quentin Lara who took third place at 195lbs. Lara started the day winning his first three bouts claiming a pinfall win in 5:07 against a competitor from Republic County, then winning in just 28 seconds via pin against a grappler from Stafford and won by a 6-0 decision versus a wrestler from Dodge City. In the Championship bracket Lara fell to a wrestler from Ell-Saline by a tight 6-4 decision and then wrestled for third place earning a pinfall win in 1:40 over the same Dodge City wrestler he beat earlier in the tournament. 

Trenton Cott was also in action for Onaga on the mats in Lincoln and earned third place at 152lbs by going 3-2 in round robin action. Cott picked up a pair of pinfall wins on the day in 5:19 against a wrestler from Ell-Saline and in 3:43 versus a grappler from Republic County, while his other win came in a tight bout against a wrestler from Republic County winning in two overtimes. 

The wrestling season will continue for the Onaga Buffaloes next Thursday at the Pleasant Ridge quad.
