Several area high school athletes continue their athletic career at the college level and hope for continued success on the field, court or etc. and eight athletes from the area this year enjoyed some top notch success with their college football teams. Garden City Community College football team claimed the school’s first ever NJCAA football title, while Baker University's football team finished as the NAIA national runner-up this year.

The Garden City CC Broncobusters put together a strong season in which they won their first Jayhawk conference title since 2001 and earned a spot in the NJCAA National championship game where they beat Arizona Western College 25-22 to win the title and finish the year 11-0 and the #1 team in NJCAA rankings. Two area athletes compete for the Broncbusters as former Horton Charger, Cole Wolf is a redshirt freshman on the team playing offensive line and long snapper, while former Jeff West Tiger, Luke Herring is a freshman and the teams kicker. Herring finished the year 28-33 on extra points and made a 25-yard field going 1-4 on field goals.

For the Baker Wildcats the trip to the NAIA National championship game marked the second in school history and they were looking to win their first ever National title but came up short against St. Francis who won 38-17. The loss gave Baker a 14-1 finish to the season and a runner-up finish to the year, while the team also with their 14 wins set a single season school record. Six area athletes play for the Wildcats including three former Holton Wildcats, a former Sabetha Bluejay, former Jeff West Tiger and former Washington County Tiger. Sophomore and former Holton Wildcat, Indie Allen registered 42 tackles with a fumble recovery at linebacker for Baker on the year and also had a punt return touchdown, while freshman, Justin Rieschick (Holton) recorded 21 tackles and an interception at defensive back and fellow for Holton Wildcat, Cooper Allen is also on the team and is a freshman on the offensive line. Former Sabetha Bluejay, Kegan Schuman is a sophomore linebacker for Baker and posted 28 tackles, two interceptions including a pick six and a fumble recovery, while former Washington County Tiger, Konnor Penning is a freshman defensive back and recorded seven tackles on the year. Former Jeff West Tiger, Jared Ice is also on the team and is a freshman on the offensive line.
