Several Area Wrestlers in Action at Rossville Invitational

Out of the holiday break area wrestlers were eager to get back on the mats in competition and several area grapplers competed at the Rossville Invitational. 

The Big Seven League highlighted the area team performances at the Rossville Invitational as Riverside edged Sabetha for fifth place as team by just a half of a point giving Sabetha sixth place and Perry Lecompton placed seventh as a team. Pleasant Ridge and ACCHS rounded out the Top 10 team finishes at the Rossville Invitational placing ninth and tenth. While, Doniphan West, Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Hiawatha finsihed 14th, 15th and 16th as a team. Santa Fe Trail took the team title just edging Clay Center by 2.5 points. 

Seven Top six finishes on the day paced Sabetha to their fifth place team finish at the Rossville Inviational. Going 2-1 with a pinfall win in 1:36 and a technical fall victory, 15-0 Seth Harrell earned second place at 126lbs to lead Sabetha, as he fell in a tough bout in the Championship match losing a 4-3 decision. Brendan Rokey (195lbs) took third place going 3-1 on the mats, while Brandon Brownlee (145lbs), Cauy Rokey (182lbs) and Elliot Strahm (285lbs) all took fourth place registering records of 3-2, 2-2 and 2-2, respectively. Both Matt Meyer (138lbs) and Kamden Brownlee (152lbs) each placed sixth going 1-3 and 3-3, respectively in action. 

A individual tournament champion led the Riverside Cyclones on the day at the Rossville Invitational as Scott Resler wrestled to a 4-0 day at 145lbs and took first place posting a pair of pinfall wins (1:02 and :50) while also winning by a 6-4 and 2-0 decision. It was 4-1 marks on the mats for both Luke Horn (138lbs) and Donovan Duncan (220lbs) that earned both grapplers third place finishes, while Beau Horn (126lbs) with a 2-2 day took fourth place. The Cyclone trio of Derrick Karn (132lbs), Jacob MacKnight (182lbs) and Drew Trump (195lbs) all placed fifth going 4-2, 2-2 and 1-2, respectively on the mats. 

Perry Lecompton was led by seven Top seven performances with a second place finish by Wyatt Pringle at 120lbs leading the way going 2-1 with a pinfall win (1:20) and a 4-2 decision victory. Nick Quinlan (145lbs), Torin Van Nest (152lbs) and Braden Woodson (106lbs) all placed third after going 3-1 on the mats each, while both Joel Guess (138lbs) and Kyle Bonham (285lbs) each earned fifth place after a 2-2 and 3-2 day on the mats, respectively. A sixth place finish was also earned by Dalton Kahle for the Kaws at 113lbs as he went 2-3 on the day. 

A quartet of wrestlers for Pleasant Ridge earned Top four finishes on the day at the Rossville Invitational. Trevor Ragland (113lbs) and Nick Stiver (285lbs) led the Rams on the day each earning second place in their weight class, while Nic Bridges (170lbs) placed third and Luke Oatney (132lbs) finished fourth. Ragland posted a 2-1 day on the mats with a pinfall win in 1:02 and an 8-5 decision victory for second place, while Stiver also went 2-1 winning his two matches by pinfall in 1:24 and 1:09. Bridges went 4-1 on the day to take third place and Oatney posted a 2-2 record on the mats. 

ACCHS Tigers were led by an individual champion on the mats at the Rossville Invitational as Hunter Ostertag won the 138lbs title by going 3-0 with pinfall wins in 2:31 and 2:29 and a 3-2 decision win in the Championship bout. Colton Scholz (120lbs) took fourth place after a 3-2 day, while a fifth place finish was earned by Austin Hager (106lbs) as he went 2-2. Dylan Birkinsha (160lbs) and Ryan Hanshaw (220lbs) each placed sixth going 3-3 and 2-3 in action. 

Two fourth place and two sixth place finishes led Doniphan West Mustang performances at the Rossville Invitational. Both Zeb Speer (160lbs) and Houston Idol (106lbs) each took home fourth place after going 2-2 in action. Gabe Dunn (195lbs) and Norman Miller (285lbs) each finished sixth place. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy had a fourth and fifth place performer on the mats at the Rossville Invitational as Conner Wilson (152lbs) and Benedict Humburg (145lbs) took fourth and fifth place, respectively going 4-2 and 3-2. 

Hiawatha Red Hawks got a fifth place finish from Keenan Hinton at 220lbs as he went 2-2 in action.
