Lady Cobras and Raven Boys Win NEKL Battles

The Jackson Heights girls avenged a 17-point road loss early in the season with a strong second half to beat MH-MA, while the Raven boys used a 20-3 second quarter to propel them to a season sweep against Jackson Heights.  

GIRLS = Jackson Heights 46, MH-MA 39

MH-MA took their first lead of the game 10-9 at the end of the first quarter and then built the lead to 21-13 in the second period with Grace Siebert scoring five straight points.  Jackson Heights answered with an 8-0 run that included treys by Alexis Rieschick and Kylie Dohl to tie the score, before Emma Joyce nailed a long trey to give the Ravens back a 24-21 halftime advantage.  Dohl took over in the third quarter scoring 9 of her 19 points and the Ravens committed 7 of their 19 turnovers in a stretch that Jackson Heights used a 15-8 run to take the lead and never look back.

Despite making just 3 of 12 free throws, Dohl's 19 points were enough for the Cobras to improve to 6-8 overall and 5-5 in the NEKL as they won the second half 25-15.  Trinity McMahon added a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Jcakson Heights had a sizeable advantage on the glass.  MH-MA got 10 points from Hana Ronnebaum, but only two in the second half before fouling out as the Ravens dropped to 9-6 overall and 5-6 in league play.    

BOYS = MH-MA 55, Jackson Heights 41

Jackson Heights led 10-9 after one quarter but them committed 8 of their 18 turnovers in the second quarter while MH-MA got hot from the outside during a 20-3 period and never looked back.  Jackson Heights was also plagued by serious foul trouble as four of their five starters had four fouls before the final quarter began and two fouled out.  Jackson Heights did use a 16-7 third quarter to make the game reasonable and got as close as 43-38 with under five minutes to play, but the Ravens made 12 of 13 free throws in the fourth stanza to seal the road victory.  

Wyatt Olberding finished with 14 of his 16 points in the second half before fouling out while Mason Thomas added 10 and Jackson Heights fell to 8-6 overall and 7-3 in the NEKL.  MH-MA got 18 points from Colten Kocour and 10 by Nick Caudle to improve to 12-3 overall and 9-2 in League play.  The Ravens also got 21 total points off their deep bench while winning thier fifth consecutive game.
