Four Area Schools Compete at Chase County Wrestling Invitational

The high school wrestling regular season wrapped up on Saturday and four area schools competed at the Chase County Invitational. Doniphan West, Pleasant Ridge, Oskaloosa and Onaga all competed on the mats. 

Doniphan West tied for sixth as a team at the Chase County Invitational out of 15 schools. Leading the charge for the Mustangs was Zeb Speer who posted a 3-0 day at 160lbs to earn first place winning by pinfall in 33 and 51 seconds and also by injury default. Gabe Dunn notched a 2-1 day with a pair of pinfall wins 1:34 and 1:21 taking second place at 195lbs, while Rodger Groves went 3-2 and took third place at 120lbs. Houston Idol finished with a fourth place finish after a 2-2 day on the mats. 

Pleasant Ridge was led by pair of second place finishes and a third place finish as they finished 12th as a team on the day. Nick Stiver (285lbs) and Luke Oatney (132lbs) each took second place both going 3-1. Stiver registered a win by pin 1:26, injury default and 11-4 decision, while Oatney had three pinfall wins in 35, 37 and 40 seconds. Nick Bridges took third place for the Rams at 170lbs going 3-1 in action. 

Oskaloosa Bears had a second and fourth place finisher on the day as they finished 13th as a team. Jared Miller behind a 2-1 day on the mats took second place at 182lbs earning a pinfall win in 1:18 and a win by 4-1 decision, while Chris King took fourth place at 220lbs after going 1-2.  

Onaga Buffaloes finished 15th as a team and had a trio of grapplers in action but no Top four finishers in the competition. 

All four schools now turn their attention to 3-2-1A Regional action coming up on February 17th and 18th hosted by Wabaunsee.
